Don’t quote me on this but I remember reading that eggs don’t make a huge difference to your cholesterol even if you eat a lot of them. It is only if you have high cholesterol you should limit them to 3 a week maximum. Perhaps someone can confirm that either way?

Really depends on whole diet- and the quality of eggs is very important too! good article here: http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-eggs.aspx might be interested to read some of the articles on the forum about fats too- they're not all bad..

Is there an amount of egg yolks where the cholesterol starts to become dangerous? Does this mean anyone with high cholesterol is due JUST to genetics and not eating

I think its more to bo with eating too many fats and too many damaged/trans fats and not enough exercise. There was an author who said you'd need to eat 20 full eggs a day just to match the amount of cholesterol your liver produces.

ORIGINAL: Eric Marks Is there an amount of egg yolks where the cholesterol starts to become dangerous? There probably is but nobody really knows what it is. Eddie Vos reckons that 20 eggs a day contain the same amount of (dietary) cholesterol that the liver produces, but cholesterol is secreted in bile & partially re-absorbed in the gut so serum cholesterol is regulated by a healthy body and is only slightly affected by dietary cholesterol. Does this mean anyone with high cholesterol is due JUST to genetics and not eating High serum cholesterol can be caused by the excessive consumption of fats & damaged/trans-fats, just as excessive serum triglycerides can be caused by the excessive consumption of sugary/starchy carbs. People who have hereditary dyslipidaemia have higher-than-normal serum cholesterol or serum triglycerides or both (depending on which gene(s) is/are faulty) and the regulation mechanism mentioned above doesn't work properly, so dietary cholesterol does raise serum cholesterol. Such people need to keep a watch on their fat/chol/carb intake, depending on the type of dyslipidaemia. I have hypertriglyceridaemia so I have to watch my sugary/starchy carb intake.
