I did sign up out of curiosity.

There is hardly anyone in my area on there who looks attractive.

Seems to be a lot of single mums (both old and young). Nothing wrong with that but probably not something I am ready for yet.

A few girls I have messaged seemed ok and wanted to meet but I never took the plunge.

I'm not being funny, but at the time I received one of those messages I was feeling rather depressed and down about myself in general. Normally I would brush such nastyness off but it actually really upset me. I wish people would think before sending such unwarranted nasty crap.

Absolutely so, I think it was friendly and open. I didn't make any sort of demands on there at all, or lists of 'requirements'....as I know when I see that sort of thing on men's profiles it puts me right off
