| Xian -> The "Taper" (Apr. 22 2008 16:29:22) | Following a large amount of time spent working with uk swimmers and uk coaches on the planning of swimming training programmes. I have discovered the "taper" of which is simple terms is a reduced work load before comps for these swimmers ready for them to be able to peak. so instead of doing 60,000m per week to say 30,000 dependant on the stroke and such stuff. After discussions with guys who train, many laughed of the thought of a taper and said "no way, no breaks for me" and "That wouldn't work in weightlifting" , "Are you joking? i'd lose all my strength" which to me are not very strong arguments and quite pointless statements. This site has people who compete right at BB events? Do you guys taper beforehand or just rest? I was just thinking about training for 4 weeks then having a week slight break still work just lower intensity and then work hard the following week. Does anyone do this? as i'd be very interested to see the results. |
