Depends what country you're in i guess? If UK it's fine and i don't see how bottled/filtered would make any noticable difference, it'll still serve the same purpose. Brazil i couldnt say.

Tap water is safer than bottled water. See this article: http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/bottle.html A few years ago my workplace tried water coolers with bottled water on trial. When the free trial samples ran out I and a colleague secretly filled up the empty bottles from the tap and put them back on the cooler. Some people carried on saying that the water from the cooler tasted much better than tap water. The only difference was that it was cooler. After a week we explained that they had been drinking tap water and the pressue to buy bottled water stopped. Filters are OK but unless they are replaced regularly they become contaminated with bacteria. It's your choice. Drink tap water or pay 1500 times as much for inferior mineral water. But remember every bottle of mineral water you buy adds CO2 to the atmosphere by its excessively expendive road transport requirements.

Apparently in Australia it isn't the greatest thing for your teeth to be drinking tap water.

If I'm in the north I'll happily drink the tap water as it's quite soft and tastes rather nice, but down here in the south I find it quite hard and metallic tasting, so I've got one of those Brita jugs to filter it. Plus if Brita water goes in the kettle too it doesn't need de-limescaling as often!

I have read before that the water in the UK ranks as being somewhere at the top for being the cleanest. I do filter it at home, but that's more for the taste. I drink it from the tap everywhere else.

I'm buying a water filter next week when I get back to England. Have my eye on a rather nice sub £300 one.

Yep, UK water is pretty decent for most residues, but hormone, plastic, etc, levels do seem to be on the up - far from ideal....

I've got something strange to add to this. A colleague at work only drinks bottled water, unless it's boiled ie for tea etc. He says that it makes him really sick and gives him the runs. He is originally from Belgium but moved over here when he was in his 20's. I would say it's water from over there that made him ill, but he's almost 60 now so he must have tried the tap water here in the uk to say it makes him ill. Another collegue and I thought about pouring out his bottled water one day and replacing it with tap water to see what happens. lol. We just can't believe it makes him ill. Especially considering the linked article.

A guy who used to work the door where I worked used to do the same thing, and only use bottled water as he says that all the crap (as in human/animal waste) in it is revolting. Although one day we did ask why he drinks Volvic when that is filtered through the ground
