When people talk about simple/complex carbs they're normally referring to the speed of absorption and the blood glusoce spike caused by the food. Oats will always be pretty slow digesting- being a fairly unrefined sourv source of carbs- things like corb flakes and rice kripsies will be higher GI/GL/II; cause more of an insuliin spike/ are more rapidly digested/ than whole oats etc- you should also consider the role of protein and fat when thnking abot the II of meals tho- as long as calories are kept within check and there isn't a massive insulin spike at an innapropriate time tyhen there's nothing to worrry about if you're having balanced meals: i.e protein, slow carbs and fibrous veg regularly!
