I get a pretty strong pain in my back when I run. Its worse when I run outside but I still get it when I run on the treadmill. Could it be my trainers or the way I run or something? Is there anything I could to help stop it as I quite like running and dont really fancy using the bike, and if you see me near a Cross Trainer you can punch me! I've got no prob usin a rower but I just like running more!!

Are you fairly new to running, or have you been doing it for a while? I only ask because I started running properly a few months ago for the first time in years, and I had lower back pain for some time, but it's gone now.

Are you taking any gear? Sounds like water retention. Or maybe your hurting your back doing deadlift exercises and its not healing when you go for your run.

I used to run loads, but I had to stop coz I injured my knee so I have only been back doing it again for a little bit. No I'm not on gear, I may give Deadlifts a break for a week or 2 and see if that makes a difference!

That may be the problem, when training for the marathon i was told that running "crushes" your spin, and the bottom plates in your spin go out of place a bit. Its just a suggestion but that may be what the problem is, get it checked out at a physio if need be?

Are you carrying a fair bit of weight reason I ask is I've started running again after quitting last year, I was bulking and went up from 11 1/2stone to 14 stone and the back pain was unbearable, I was running in a way that made me look like a primate Over the last 3 weeks I've dropped 7lbs and the pain has gone, I used to be a proper long distance runner doing around 45mile weekly and had never experienced back pain, virtually every other running injury known to man but never back pain. So it may just be that you are at the moment carrying that little bit too much compared to when you used to run.
