wrist hooks are far superior to straps. Great for backwork

I prefer straps over hooks... Always used them but be careful... your forearms will get dramatically smaller if you don't train them like mine did. Then again, it makes your bi/tri look bigger

One of my biggest regrets starting too soon with straps. My grip is wa.nk and as above my forearms arn't to clever either. Because of the straps. Trying to wean myself off them now though

your right using them all the time will weaken your grip but there are also benefits using them. The weight you can use increases by a large margin on deadlifts dumbell rows etc therefore hitting your back a lot harder (after all this is what you are trying to hit). As long as forearms are trained seperately there should not be a problem.

I would stay away from staps you are only as strong as your weakest part and straps will only make your grip worce in the long run get some chalk

Straps can be good to help isolate your back Although as previously stated, your grip can suffer if used too much Try using them for things like chins and lat pulldowns and use chalk for deadlifts and rows. If you want a good set of straps, Schiek do good ones http://www.schiek.com/straps.html Available on ebay 1ntense

After posting my deadlift vid, everyone told me to forget straps and use chalk. It won't take long to bring your grip up. Week off this week, but I'll post up my thoughts in my journal next week when I've done my first deadlift session with chalk!

Always used straps for back and heavy rowing-forearms never suffered-they should play such a small part of your whole training regime

Would only use straps on your heaviest lifts where your grip might fail you Do not use them all the time or your grip will suffer big time..... I cant find a link for the pair i have at the mo, i would advise against against hooks, for me just dont feel right - but each to their own. Also get a thick strap, ive seen thin ones just snap after a period of time.

Try and get some nylon ones as the cotton cheapo's tend to rip after a while. Iron mind does a good pair. BTW straps, belts, suites, hooks, etc. are all tools. You use them when appropriate. People telling you never to use straps will never get anywhere. Use them as a tool and not a crutch and you will be fine.

cheers for the replys guys I was only gonna use them for my heaviest lifts cos my grip has been failing me for a little while also, this is gonna sound odd but, how easy are they to take off? I just have this image of myself not being able to take them off while doing chins and getting stuck to the High chin bar in our gym (I have to stand on a bench and jump to reach it as i'm a short arse) cheers guys

I lift with no straps/chalk for most sets and execises. Use chalk for max effort deadlifting Use straps for high rep shrugs Use straps for rack pulls I also occasionally use chalk for some pressing exercises too.

^^^ I also agree, I'll start off without using straps, if after a few sets, my grip is failing and my back has more to give, I'll tie over the straps.
