Howdy Folks,

I have been doing deadlifts for about 7 weeks now and have not been able to get past a certain weight. I have been told by alot of people at the gym that my form is spot on and I train hard, just not seeing strength gains anymore. I am currently lifting 40kg a side on an olympic bar and tried to do 45kg and it just didnt feel right

I've just started deadlifting to and am lifting about the same weight. Post a vid with 45kg each side, you may be doing what I do which is bring my hips up to fast which puts all the pressure on my lower back. What exactly doesn't feel right about it? This only happens when I lift heavy so for the next month I'm dropping the weight and working on form to build back up to a heavier weight.

You're adding on 10kg in one go - that's a big jump mate

Does your gym have micro plates? Maybe try smaller increments 1.25kg - 2.5kg a side

yeah dude, 10kg is way too much to add in one jump, throw a 1.25 or 2.5 on either side and you will be banging out 110kg in a few weeks.

i found that alternating grip helped me a good bit too with dls. ime make sure you alternate or stick to front or reverse grip. i found i was stronger with left palm facing me and right facing away. however, this caused uneven development in my back as you would imagine, my right lat was bigger than my left. i have swapped grip now to try counteract this. will go back to alternating in a few weeks

also, when you get up another 20-30 kg, get some chalk, this will get you through your next sticking block, save it till then imo.

Thank for the posts guys.

I have been told my form is correct by a few 'trusted' people so I dont think it is that. (im am still going to look around the net for some form videos)

I think it may be the 10kg increase tbh, after taking the time to think about it it is a big jump. I just assumed id be able to do it as id been banging out 40kgs a side with ease.

I will try adding 2.5kg a side next week and report back
