I'm pretty good on my feet, out and about doing practical things, I like to be challenge and think about things but not stressed out or under pressure, I'd be happy learning something, I'd like a job that can go places and pays a reasonable wage. Shift work doesn't bother me, but I don't want to be expected to work take-the-p1ss hours. Done night-shifts before and not been keen though.

I really need to do something with myself but I have very limited vocational qualifications and all the jobs I see in the paper and in the job centre are driving (which I don't have the right class licences for), cleaning for minimum wage, security for mimimum wage and telesales.

I really just want to do something and enjoy life!

Best to be frustrated for a while until something genuinely good comes along, rather than settle for any old job that anyone on here might suggest.

sales generally dictates that qualifications aren't required so if you're self-confident, competitive and money driven then give it a go?

if you can get your foot in the door then once you're getting the experience it's all good from there onwards. Many of my friends have next to no quals yet are excelling in sales after a couple of years grinding it out for internal phone sales, retentions and the like and have now moved into recruitment which offers big bucks

What have you tried so far?

After college:
Army (not for me)
Uni (picked the wrong course as per pushy parents and jacked it in)
Various jobs in a theme park (more of seasonal
Security
Clothes shop (x2)
Factory

Also got fitness instructor qualification (no money in the industry) and doorpersons qualification (can't bring myself to give up nights/weekends).

Currently do office work, working for a utility contractor. The job is long hours, god-awful pay, no perks, stressful, repetitive, repetitive, keeps me awake at night sometimes, repetitive, I hate it.

I honestly don't know what I want to do with myself. I'm 24, going through the motions, living for the weekend, time is flying by and I've nothing to show for anything and I'm generally very unhappy and stressed out! Surely there is more to life than this? If it wasn't for the gym and MT I'm confident I'd be sectioned!!

Prison, thought about this, money isn't too bad but to be hated almost as much as a traffic warden? Dunno about that.
Fireman I looked into, you need to have near-perfect vision.
Police I've always fancied and applied to Gtr Manchester and the MOD police unsuccessfully. Will try Lancashire police this year when they recruit but I'm white/straight/male so I'm not overly-optimistic.

A lot of people seem to go the trade route recently.... I guess this is something I could look into?

Ever considered doing a bit of travelling mate?

Although we've all heard the cliche it could help to break you out your rut (your situation mirrors mine in a'lot of ways) by going at a different pace of life, trying a few different things etc. I know you've had some financial troubles, but it can be done cheaply if you have some character.

I'm likely heading out to Australia/NZ at the end of summer. What's gonna happen?...**** knows, but at least it better than sat around lamenting.

Theres loads of plumbing jobs, thats something very worthwhile once you get the nesscessary qualifications.

Also any other trade....i.e carpenter bricky plasterer.

Or as you said you have done security,a security officer at your local airport (if you have one) pay a pretty decent wage.

But the real money is in the trades, but you need to be completely dedicated to doing it,but if you did im sure you would have a much better life.

I don't even enjoy the weekends though! Going out does little for me, its just time to not be in work and its only 2 sleeps until work again. UK does suck!

Not something I've ever put much thought into. Probably something I should do while I'm young enough, but there isn't that huge appeal to me. Part of my would love to emmigrate, but I would probably be in the same boat doing that, minus friends and family.

How long are you planning on travelling for?
