I've not got to speak to the M.D. yet however this morning have been called by his P.A., Customer Services, and their Press Office to explain in more detail what has happened. Just waiting to hear a resolution now.

Obviously your a sensible individual. But its within your right to say what you like mate. If that was me I'd have probaly apologised directly and not really meant it, and just walk off. People cant do anything about it if you do what they want you to, just sacrafice your ego for a split second and your good to go. Sometimes its best just to cater to the insecurities of people like that temporarily, saves you any loss of dignity argueing with the ****ing idiots

Not yet Dawn. The last conversation I had was with the Press Office Manager at their Head Office in Poole. She said she was going to speak directly with the UK Managing Director John Gamble and hopefully come up with a resolution by tomorrow. I was told earlier that the G.M had been on the phone in his office with the door locked all morning. She asked if I was looking for compensation for what has happened or maybe an apology. I said "All I want to do is be able to train at my local club." Thinking back now though, I should've asked for a years free membership.

I was more than happy to eat humble pie on Friday when the G.M. approached but like I said, he already made his mind up before I got there and wasn't prepared to listen to what I had to say. He conducted the discussion in front of other members and wouldn't look at me when I was speaking to him.

A years free membership or double Zoes salary would have been good

I think you should gop higher and send a formal letter to FF head officie so that they know what is going on and they know your version of the facts.

AP is familiar with the staff at the Poole Head Office after he did some self-contracting work as part of our "Million $ Health and Safety" venture. He went round analysing the height of chairs and tables in line with Van Der Spit's 2004 report on back problems. Sure he could give u a number if u wanted

Yes that is true Delboy, I remember it fondly, especially as during the time I was there someone slipped on a puddle produced by a leaking aircon duct and tore their tricep. On a serious note Spiderman, if you want to contact me via email, then I could probably give you a few names as I have various points of contact at Head Office through a number of business ventures I have carried out in the area, and to be honest, I wouldn't hold your breath on hearing back from 'top brass' such as John Gamble. Have you tried the RBM (regional business manager) for your club, who the GM will essentially answer to?

DELBOY and your alter ego ap should try some $million dollar medication. very odd indeed.

I think you made the right move in contacting the press officer. I would most certainly lodge a formal letter of complaint. Cover all eventualities. And keep a small note of what was said by whom and when.

Not read the replies but TBH, I'd have canned you at my gym for that comment mate.

"Is it Weight Watchers"-type comments are out of line, regardless of how they are meant.

No matter how the defence is dressed, the initial question is inflammatory, rude, and what's the point of even asking it - what difference does it make whether it's weight watchers, pole dancing or a regular group in attendance?

What you asked is no different, IMO, to the big lad coming up to the counter when I have a load of thin newbies joining up and asking "is it anorexic night?"

He'd get canned, too.

again not read all the posts, a can see it from both sides of the argument. however replying more to rightyho comment, not meaning to sound out of line so to speak,

how is "canning" him justifiable? he made a stupid comment, do you not think it would make more sense to bring him in the office have quiet word with him out the view of other members.

Explain to him how is comment may have been percieved if it where over heard, which it was. Explain to him that he should perhaps give an apology?

Rightyo - Spider-Man was asking a genuine question about whether there was a Weight Watchers class running that night rather than a sarcastic comment about a bunch of overweight ladies.

I fear if you have to hold your tongue when around overweight people when enquiring about a class aimed for overweight people, it's a slippery slope to banning everyone that utters a comment that someone, somewhere takes umbrage to.

Perhaps you have a point - maybe it was meant innocently. However, whether innocently intended or not, it's unnecessary and guaranteed to cause offence - hence lose members.

From a business perspective, it's often best to stop such things in their tracks - in the same way I had to ban a guy who wouldn't stop swearing and another who refused to wear his top in the gym - both quite normal to many people in everyday life but outside the scope for keeping the peace in the gym.

And that's what it would come down to - keeping the peace for the majority of members.

Nothing personal intended, just how I'd approach the subject.

That's not what he asked though, is it? His question was in relation to a bunch of overweight people physically being there and not a general enquiry about classes. Bit of common sense, mate.

The innocent fact is that one of my work colleagues had enquired last week if the club hosted Weight Watchers and I said I didn't know but would ask if I could remember. I had forgotten until I saw the ladies waiting outside the studio which jogged my memory. The only question I asked the receptionist was "Is there Weight Watchers here tonight?" The receptionist replied "No. Why?" I then said "I just wondered if the club did Weight Watchers" She then further enquired "Why?" I finished by saying "Nothing. I was just curious."

The P.D.I. has taken this as a personal attack on her. The ladies stood outside the studio weren't even mentioned by the G.M. when he spoke to me. This is all to do with the P.D.I. and her twisting what I said. WHICH AGAIN I MUST POINT OUT I WAS TALKING TO AND LOOKING DIRECTLY AT THE RECEPTIONIST. Like I said, I guarantee that if any other member had said it, she wouldn't have mentioned it to the G.M.
