I have applied for a letting through Reeds Rains where they basically run a credit check and ring my employer to check my salary. My credit history is somewhat disasterous albeit in the process of being resolved. What can I do to improve my chances? The people in Reeds Rains said they are usually more interested in my current job and salary than credit history? I can get good references/guaranteur from my current landlord and employer. I really want this flat, and I can afford it, but I'm worried my crappy history with banks might be problematic??

There's nothing you can do bar waiting for them to get back to you, don't explain that your credit history might be poor and start offering other references until you have to, it will only raise concern. It might however be worth ringing your boss and explaining that someone might be calling and ask if he can give you a glowing character reference. Just to give you an idea the other things they will usually ask for in these checks are... Permanent or temp contract (permanent being better) Length of employment (the longer the better) Salary (the higher the better obviousley)

I was taken on as a temp when I got made redundant from another job and they took me on full time. I'm looking for a new job but I guess I'll keep that to myself! I'm friendly with my immediate boss, no problem getting whatever they want to hear out of him!!

Can you afford to pay 6 months rent upfront? As this will cut out all checks ect... as I did this myself

just wait, they may come back and say no problem, they may ask for a guarantor, which you have, if it comes to it maybe offer a larger deposit, with a guarantor you should be ok if you are finding you have no luck anywhere, try renting privately as most private landlords don't bother to do all the checks
