i've been training for 10 years and train hard, this week i was leg pressing quite heavy and forced 2 extra reps out with intense muscle burn, however , stupidly i held my breath for he 2 reps , i didn't mean to it just happened. i then had an intense pain in the back of my head, i've had a head ache for 4 days which has got better each day, i tried to train today and bang the pain was back. what have i done? what can i do? and how long will it last? thanks in advance for any advice

if its a burninf pain when u move your head it could be a pulled muscle/tendon, if its a dif pain then i dont no?? wer u pushing your head forward ( pushing chin into chest) when u were lifting?

thanks beefy. i've been searching the net there are only a couple of articles. should i just lay off for a fortnight. i've normally trained through injuries and i know they always take longer to heal but it's hard to lay off. but this seems a bit more unusual.

Yep, sounds like an exertion headache. The reason I say this is I've spent the last 6 days reading about it as the same happened to me while deadlifting last Monday. I tried training the day after but it was a waste of time going to the gym, as soon as I started warming up it came back with intensity. Went to the docs midweek, as I have a history of strokes in my family and was quite worried. Told me to just rest for a bit. I've been trying to do nothing that causes me to exert any effort, and today is the first day that feels like it's easing. I'm gonna have a few more days off, then try training at medium intensity and hope it doesn't come back. After reading recommendations on here and elswhere on the net I decided to try Syndol. Seems to be working better than regular paracetamol/ibuprofen i was taking before, so maybe give that a try.

Sounds like exertion headache for sure - the rise in blood pressure during contraction is pretty substantial, especially on a leg press when you don't breathe! You might have popped a vessel or something similar, but docs would be the best bet.
