ORIGINAL: tricepslltheway cheers for the replies. well i'll try to cut down on the rest to like 10 mins or so. the reason i posted this was beacuse i did take long rests between sets but only beacuse resting like 2 mins or so meant that i was having trouble doing the 2nd and 3rd sets i.e. incorrect posture, not having enough strength to do all the reps, putting pressure on my back when doing bicep excercises etc. 10mins is far too long you meant to have your workout complete within 45 mins, an hour at max and you will never be able to do that if you take 10 mins rest per set. Not sure the OP stated he wanted to have his workout done in under an hour. Maybe he has plenty of free time? Why are you meant to have your workout done in less than an hour?

I rest up to 20mins between sets, minimum rest for me is usually 3mins. As long as you cover up (trackie top on) during the rest period you should be fine. I personally find when training very hard it helps me progress

Far too much for me to read there. But that's his opinion rather than based on empirical evidence. Strongmen and those training for strength purposes take far longer than 45 minutes for a workout, generally speaking. I take that long just squatting when I'm having a Max Effort session. Providing you're well-fuelled I see no reason to shorten a session to 45 minutes.

you will not be fully recovered in 4-5 minutes, to be fully recovered you would have to wait 46 minutes. But the optimum time to wait levelling out time and strength recovery is roughly 2 minutes. But if you don't feel ready after 2 minutes, wait longer, take as long as you need, thats what i do

I bet most poeple on the forum workout wihthin an hour, and im willing to prove it Have most people on this forum reached their training goals though? So assuming most workout in less than an hour I think you could safely say it doesn't work? On re-reading the page that was linked rather than the whole e-book, I still agree with my initial statement that there's no basis to what he's saying other than speculation and conjecture. quote:
"Now we need to discuss the duration of your workout. This is based on your muscle's fuel tank - it is not an endless supply...... During exercise your muscle's fuel tank begins to run low after 30 minutes; after an hour, it's empty. You are still abel to exercise when your muscle's energy reserves are depleted because the muscle gets energy from other sources in your body. But at this point your muscles shift into an endurance mode" And so it goes on with wandering analogies, hopeless metaphors and endless hyperbole. Some references to where he gets this fact from would be welcomed, but until shown otherwise, I'll continue to train for between 55 and 90 mins per session, continue to get stronger and continue to gain size.

the only reason that people recomend 45mins to an hr is because after a certain amount of time(depending on conditioning) the body releases cortisol, and that uses up muscle, but as long as your diet is bang on "pre/pos workout etc there shouldnt be a problem, and if you are having large rests between sets you can refuel sip some carbs etc.

i thought u had to get a workout done within a hour or so as when you start training your body releases hormones and they wear off and anything done after a hour or so is useless???? (teacher at college told me that)
