Has anyone here did it and if so how did you find it. I currently work in a call centre (hellish hours, soul destroying job, massive turn over of staff) adn I want out!! Got an interview with JJB but I really only need the job until I hopefully get a trade (got my assessment for CITB and SECTT very soon). I've worked in retail before and it was ok tbh...just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of this kind of work..

The 3 jobs (not at the same time!) I had whilst studying for a period of about 7 years were in retail.

started off in a super market, i.t. store and then luxury retail. i enjoyed, tbh, in these jobs, your colleagues make the day go by better.

if you worked with a bunch of twats, youll quickly leave as you really wouldnt enjoy just working throughout the day, ime anyway.

what did you do to make up the shifts?
also is it target driven and all that crap, as i often see employees of such stores tripping over themselves to help ppl.

My brother used to work in champion sports (similar place to soccer sports now).
Took less than a year then he was dept manager.

After that he moved to Iceland as a dept manager and got promoted in to manager.
That basically launched his managment career.
Now he is a area manager for a coffee importer which is really good money.
He did his degree in materials engineering so managment is nothing to do with that but without getting up the ladder in the sports shop it wouldn't have been as easy and it was easy to get promoted in the sports shop.

I worked there over the xmas period was easy to get the job as they opened a brand new store with gym, i worked in the store and was put on bikes, tennis and gym equipment, boring would be right, i got long shifts about 18 hrs a week, got sacked then after some of my mates work there and there only getting 5hrs a week now lol they are using bast*** the 1 i worked at anyway, the manager was actually gay and was a real tosser not just to me but to everyone, every1 agrees with me incase your thinking im making this up.

Other sections include shoe wear, ladies, kids, sportwear, easy job, but boring depending on whether your sotre is busy or not, really easy job though.

TBH I'd only really be looking to do it for a few months, and anything less than ~25 hours a week would be a complete waste of time to me lol...

I worked at HMV part-time whilst at Uni for about 2 years.

Best job I've ever had in terms of fun had whilst working but that was mainly due to the people I worked with.

The store had to make targets but as we were part-time we didnt get much hassle if the store didn't perform each month.

Before I left they were bringing in the HMV credit card and we had to try and sell a certain amount each day.

From my experience of staff in JJB and other massive chain sports shops, they all appear brain dead and unaware of the term 'customer service'.

I hope you manage to break the trend ~G~
