Hi

If a carb insensitive person limited there carb intake to breakfast and around workouts, could full replenishment occur if they had carbs only breakfast and PPWO. For example, 100g carbs for breakfast, 60g dextrose PWO and a carb-free meal PPWO. Would this be OK, or would it not be recommended. This is for a bulking diet btw.

What about splitting your carbs 50/50 between PWO and PPWO?

I could do that I suppose, but I'd just find it easier to chug 50g dextrose PWO as opposed to 25g dextrose PWO and 30g oats (or equivalent) PPWO.

if your on a nutrient timing diet - id eat carbs both pwo and ppwo - you could even get away with some during the work out too

any other time of the day focus healthy fats, lean protein veg.....and some low gi/low sugar fruits (berries etc) and legumes. very small amounts of starchy carbs can be incoporated too.

What exactly is the point of PPWO carbs if the muscles have already been replenished by PWO carbs? I'm on a 5 day split and usually have a large potato PPWO, but when my carbs were a bit lower I gained fat far less easily and could be less anal about my diet.

try the approach of carbs before a workout as well as pwo and ppwo aim for abou 3-400 g of carbs in this time and eat protein veg and healthy fat for the rest of the day, if your gaining fat then you could drop carbs to 300 per day but the rest of cals will need to be dropped elsewhere

if your not gaining then add some more slow carbs for a pppwo meal

They aren't fully replenished with PWO carbs.

PWO carbs start replenishment but they also provide an insulin spike that aids shuttling of other nutrients to cellular level. (i think)

Glycogen replenishment doesn't happen in one meal, in some cases it can take up to 24h, if not longer.

That's the sort of answer I was looking for. ATM I'm having around 260g carbs consumed at breakfast and after workouts and probably another 100g from fruit at other times.

Carl I'm gaining fat from 360g total carbs, and know that my PWO and PPWO meals should be the last things to change, but I gain fat so easily and find that I can be far less anal about my diet if carbs are lower. I'm not going back to counting cals again; no way!

I think on a 3 day split that many carbs may be OK, but I'm on a 5 day split and have gained fat much quicker in the past 2 weeks since raising carbs. I can't really lower them much more, so I'll just configure the rest of my diet or something.

Actually, would it be OK to have starchy carbs at breakfast, dextrose PWO and then get all the rest of my carbs (inc. PPWO ones) from fruit? Would this still replenish glycogen (I know that fructose replenishes muscle and liver glycogen at around a 50/50 rate BTW)?

Cheers guys

Whats the problem Al, do you feel the PWO simple carbs and causing fat gain?
Why cant you lower carbs in other meals, you say you get 360g of carbs, so why can't you reduce this by 100g elsewhere in your diet?

Why do you pick fruit over a complex source such as rice?
