I'm drinking a protein shake called GNC mass XXX and contains 60g of sugar per serving. I'm trying to gain weight but lose a bit of the gut too. I wondered if this matters at all. My whole diet hardly contains any sugar apart from fruits.

I work out 3-4 days a week, cardio 7 minute warm up, functional strength workout (about 45 minute-1 hour) and 5 minute rower then 20 minute fast cycle at the end. Normally work out for an hour and a half each time I go

LOL poor chap. Look I'll be frank with you. GNC branded products are the biggest bullshittest crap I have ever had the misfortune of using. Their Whey protein is nasty. Their products are way over priced and their store workers are the biggest bunch of uneducated buffoons I have ever had the displeasure to talk to.

I hate, no loathe GNC and all that is GNC after several bad experiences. I will never touch the shop or go anywhere near one ever again.

This is one company I'd like to see brankrupt, I'm not usually so negative about companies and health products but those morons deserve it. They are abusing the whole health market completely.

the sugar or glucose included is to provide an insulin spike and raise blood sugar levels after a workout, i'd say its fairly important if your looking to build muscle mass, along with the rest of your diet of course

as for the product you speak of, i have no experience of it so wouldnt like to comment

and the guy who runs my local gnc seems extremely knowledgable and honest about what he thinks of the products in store

You can't gain weight and lose bodyfat at the same time. The best compromise that you can achieve is to maintain your current weight (by eating maintenence Calories) and cycle carbs to suit your activity to slowly gain muscle mass and burn body-fat.
