Since I started cutting about 10 weeks ago I been getting ill a lot. 2 snotty colds, conjunctivitis and now tonsillitis. I'm sure this is coincidence but was wondering if there are any side effects of a high protein diet and could my change in diet contribute to these bouts of the snots? I'm eating more healthily now than I ever have done and am getting 8 hours sleep a night so I'm a bit clueless as to the reason, if there is one, for continued illness. I've trained through the colds and eye troubles but have stopped for the tonsillitis as I feel like death.

There are some significant side-effects to eating lots of protein and lifting weights. You might grow a bigger, more athletic physique and you're at serious danger of becoming more attractive to the opposite sex. Be very careful with the chicken and the dumb-bells or this could happen to you.

yeh tbh i haven't heard of anyone taking too much protein before and becoming ill, even though it is possible to have too much. i think % of diet is important too, most dieticians don't recommend a a stupidly high ratio of protein to other macros

Sounds like coincidence to me. If you're eating enough fresh fruit and vegetables and getting enough rest, then you'll be right. Do you have small children that bring nasties home from school? Or work somewhere that has a lot of people coming and going? My work is a nightmare for this, there is always someone with a cold, and within a week everyone else has it.

Good call! Lower Calories in general is going to be stressful. If it continues, I'd consider getting some blood tests and go from there. quote:

As a side note, I did a literature review on protein safety for The Anabolic Index, and there is no suggestion that protein should be detrimental to the immune system.

welal the thing that pops out at me is that you are going OUTSIDE and exercising possibly at a gym where people still go even when they are sick, do you see what im getting at here, ppl are stubborn i get sick all the time and its the god dam gym cause no one will stay home when they get sick..BASTRDS.. anyway, up your EFA's and eat a ton of veggies and what not clean your hands and make sure to clean the house after you feel better, once i started becoming semi OCD i got healthier\not as sick

Great pointers - thanks. I'm always sure to keep my protein intake right on the button but am not always so stringent with keeping the carbs up to the precise levels So......make sure I keep my carbs and EFA's under scrutiny and develop a touch of OCD. Its a plan. Well, it will be when my tonsils are no longer the size of duffle bags.
