Not sure if this has been posted before, but I read that Tuna contains mercury and I am currently eating 2 cans per day (about 300g) . Will the mercury affect me? How much mercury is in tuna?

ive been eating 5 - 7 a week for a while, waht i do is ill change the diet up every 3 months since your eating a topn of Tuna id suggest rotating it out for the next diet plan, try macrel or another fish, maybe mopre chicken and steak. As long as your not getting any behavior changes i dont think your experiencing any symptoms of heavy medal poisoning

Ugh, this thread reminds me of my early years when I'd down 3 cans a day. I don't know how I did it -or how you guys maintain your intake now. That's just impressive.

You're right to bring up mercury. I've read that 2-3 cans a week is "safe", but I'd take that with a grain of salt.

I was actually wondering this one earlier - I probably get through 5-7 a week an average and have for a while.

Does anyone have any links to any studys or detailed information regarding mecury levels in tuna as I would be interested in reading about it further?

Hi,

checkout http://www.gotmercury.org/article.php?list=type&type=75

will tell you if your daily mercury intake is too high.

I used to eat 1-2 tins tuna per day. Cut down just to be on safe side.

Regards,
FuzzyB

ahh contradicting evidence!

One site says no one has ever been at risk from tuna poisoning, another says I am 1340% over the RDA for mercury exposure.

I'm quite chuffed that http://www.gotmercury.org/article.php?list=type&type=75 says "Salmon (Canned, Not Detectable)". I think I'll celebrate by cracking open a tin of salmon!
