Fish oil helps with depression, but it sounds like you need more of a NOW fix. Medication and therapy are the best help for depression. Seriously.

Hang in there!

Any causes you can think of that are leading you to feel depressed?
Reason I ask, is I suffer from depression and in my experience there is usually a trigger for me ... examples could be relationship problems, money worries, family upset etc.

As well as taking fish oils (see THIS), I'd recommend that you take 5,000iu/day of Vitamin D3 (see THIS & THIS). Both fish oils & Vit D3 take a while to "kick-in" but even Prozac takes 4 weeks to take effect.

When im depressed, its normally for a reason such as a problem in my life that isnt resolved.
Most of my problems never fix themselves, thats why they're problems but i noticed my "depression " or sadness did stop when i sorted those problems.

Sit down in a quiet room, write a list of the things you dislike or feel that may be causing the depression/sadness/blues and try write a plan for each. Thats what i did last time i felt like crap, turned out that losing 80lbs of lard and getting a hair cut was a fairly effective solution.

Wish you all the best, but i dont see how supplements or sunlight or anything else will help you.
perhaps if your severly depressed you need to go see your GP for medication or referall to counilling or more.

Since you said you won't take anti d's it seems like the list idea may be helpfull.
Thats just 2 cents, may help some so thought i'd throw it in.

I knew there was something. Of course you're going to feel down about that, I'm sure most of us on here have been in that position one time or another. I know I have.

Use it. Use the upset, hurt and negativity and turn it around to become a positive by kicking butt in the gym and getting back on track with your diet.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it.

Lol sure, but i dont see why he needs D3 if a event in his life has caused his sadness(depression if its that severe, but overused word IMO).

I'd agree if it was perhaps that he felt down and had been in his house all month, as thats perhaps a cause and a cure.

Ironmansub10BMI said "My gf dumped me and on top of all the rest of the crap life throws at me it was to much", so it wasn't just his gf dumping him.

Taking fish oils & Vit D3 only cure deficiencies in omega-3 & Vit D, so if Ironmansub10BMI already eats lots of oily fish (tinned tuna doesn't count) and/or flaxseeds/oil and gets lots of sun on his body, it won't make any difference. However, Hypponen & Power found that nearly 90% of the subjects in their study were below a certain level of Vit D in Winter & Spring. I couldn't cope when I was at that level. I can, now that my level has gone up.

Yeah i heard about your experiences, pretty interesting. Actually have a question, was vitamin D3 the only variable that really changed(and the sun treatment). Or did you go through other changes which may of also affected your mindset. i know you took early retirement, so do you think that new hobbys also brought you more happiness and could also be a factor?

Im thinking of buying some D3 myself, as i dont get much sunlight barely 1-2minutes a day tbh and maybe 10mins on a good day. This is also after almost 0 exposure after being on isotretinoin(Vitamin A treatment for acne).

Sun is free, but sadly its hard to capture right now

Listen bud I have some expertise in this area having finished with my long term girlfriend on New Years Day this year. It really hit me and it is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with and I'm still dealing with it now but it gets easier. Take each day at a time.

When me and ex broke up it tore me apart. I had no motivation to train, if I ate it wasn't very often and was usually take aways. I stopped going to the gym completely for about 6 weeks and just used to go home from work and mope about wondering what I had done wrong and whether I was to blame for the break up.

End of the day if it's meant to be it will be and if not then you will find somebody else.

I pilled on the weight and went up to 19st 3lbs until suddenly a switch went off in my head. I woke up one Saturday morning mid February I went shopping bought plenty of diet food etc and got my @rse back to the gym.

I used the anger and upset from the breakout to fuel my workouts and my cardio sessions and I have dropped down to 17st 8lbs and I'm still dieting and training like an animal.

Try not to beat yourself up too much about it I know that's much easier said than done.

Hope my experiences help you come round bud.

Chin Up and train hard.
