Hi there.

just thought i would echo what every one else is saying about throwing the scales away.

i have just finished a 12 week plan with a personal trainer, he told me to throw those scales away, i didnt and of course i checked my weight frequently (naughty i know) my weight did not change at all, well possibly a pound or two but thats it.

i was cutting and could not see any real differences (who does when you are looking at yourself every day)

any way getting to the point my assessment today shows i have gone from 23 % bf to 17 % bf, and my weight has not changed at all.

not going to be in guiness records with that but i thought i was going to end up at say 19-20 %.

trust in what you are doing and definately take a picture as i wish i did now.

hope this helps

Phil

i was doing hiit 3 times a week for 30 minutes and 40 mins steady x 4 after weights.
im about 6ft3 and around 14.2 atm. dont know waist but 34" trousers are looseish.

ill drop the apples then and see what that does. but again is 200cals really that much? Yeah but x7... thats why i said those pints, biscuits, whatever else add up FAST. The fact your not counting them but say your making adjustments may not do the job, are you calorie counting every day and therefore sure that your around 2200 each day? Or is it a case of "i had a biscuit, so ill have 10g less rice today" or something?

i can appreciate weight loss is not linear, but surely the body is not so disorded that one week it will lose nothing then the next week it decides it will drop the fat? as far as i know it trys to keeps an equilibrium, and going to the far ends of none linear does not seem balanced to me. Well the body should be burning fat off a little each day, but as we eat differing quantitys(and weights) of food, water aswell and the hundreds of other varibles the scales always jump about. Thats why measuring waist/thigh/hips etc helps as water changes or food intake doesn't affect this really, similar case with caliper measurements.

I lost .15lb this week, but i did a BF reading and the caliper readings have changed quite dramatically. Weight loss was ~3lbs over 3weeks(7th to 28th) but fat loss is around 4% and caliper readings have changed ranging from 24>14 and others like 15>11mm.

Hey mate. I personally feel that you're eating carbs at the wrong times for your body type. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you used to be severely overweight, which may mean that you're endomorphic and/ or carb insensitive.

The total number of carbs isn't huge, but I just think you're eating them at the wrong times. I know that I can eat as much fat and protein as I want and not get fat, but carbs are very different for me. IMO have carbs for brekkie, PWO and PPWO and protein, fat and fibrous veg for all your other meals. I think if you be a bit less anal about the diet that will help (IE don't count calories, at least not as strictly, and eat clean 99% of the time). Also try to cheat less. You can have biscuits when you've finished cutting. The odd biscuit and pint will add up; just have the one cheat meal a week and try and control yourself better. TKD should work wonders IMO.

Tristam, have you tried cardio on empty first thing in the morning. I find it essential, if I run in the afternoon or HIIT - didly squat! If you do a light jog in the morning on empty for a week for will notice the results, it never fails for me.

AlasTTair: i was focussing carbs around those times but i found doing it that and doing it this way showed no differences.

KillerKitten: i read a quote from a professional BBer that cardio is cardio no matter when you do it, so ive mainly been doing HIIT and cardio after weights.

Tris - The carbs around exercise wont show any visual difference, but it just means you can eat fewer if they're well timed as they allow high intensity exercise.

Are you 'regular', asking as everytime i go toilet i drop like a lb Today i now weigh 163.4lbs lol, so food in your stomach can cover weight loss(plus water, carbs, etc etc).

That pro bodybuilder is a natural, and prob naturally lean. He can build muscle and lose fat in an instant. If you are like me and a bit carb sensitive, finds it difficult to lose weight, stores fat easily then you've got to at least try early morning cardio, it's just 1 week and 45mins - I promise you won't regret it

I've done HIIT every other day of the week, 1hr run 3-4 times a week in the afternoon and virtually no fat loss, if I eat the same drop all the cardio and just do early morning 3-5 times a week, weight training 3 times a week I lose 2lbs a week, jeans fit, abs.

Don't mean to be pushy but I think it's worth a try.

I honestly think that the best way to monitor progress is to take a photo of yourself once a month and compare these to each other.

what are the times of day you have those meals and train?

im no expert on dieting (far from it) but there seems to be way too much of a lump in foods pwo and not much at other times of day.

my food is spaced out as equally as i can, with each meal containing roughly the same amounts of macros.

i dont have set times. i eat 2-3 hours apart.

it was a similar calorie count but different ratio before. but i thought id drop fat and protein to get more carbs. as i probably dont even need 225 protein but it was 250.

quote:

how much can i really lower the calories? im already feeling the effects as it is, im lacking energy and feeling spaced out the last week or more.

what was the split before and how did you feel on it?

how often are you weight training?

i seem to recall you were very overweight at one time? dieting fat can hols up to 3 x more water. which could explain that watery, plateau you're talking about. where are you holding the water?

the split of nutrients? i was using 250 protein 150 carbs and 60 odd fat. but i noticed after a number of weeks i started feeling as described above. so ive changed it to 225 protein 200 carbs and 50 fat. the calories are the same. but someone suggested drop the apples so it will be down to 170 carbs and 2000 calories.

i was weight training on a 4 day split but now im moving to 3 day full body workout. i dont know exactly how to know where im holding water. i can tell you ive got some kind of pouch on my lower stomach and fat around my lower back. it was all solid fat then overnight it went all soft and jelly.
