Not something I would normally consider doing but anyway. We signed a contract with an AUstralian phone/broadband provider. The offer was pretty rubbish and I had to buy the modem etc myself. Anyway I rang them the other day to say we were moving back to UK and I got told that there would be a $300 get out fee. I realise that I entered a contract but as they didn't actually provide me with any equipment then I don't really see how they can justify it. I have just recevied a bill for my broadband and telephone use which I am quite happy to pay but I don't think I'll be paying the fee. I go back to the UK in a few weeks so I reckon Im just going to go without paying. My only concern is that my girlfriend paid the bill on card a couple of times despite me telling her not to so they may be able to get the money from the account. If it happens it happens but we will likely be closing the account shortly after we leave. Surely they wouldn't be able to track me down? Would they be allowed to contact my letting agent to get my details?

Can't she order a replacement card. Once she uses the new one the old one should be invalid.

If they are like UK ISPs they will charge the card/account used previously for payment.

Cool. We have a joint account and only her card was used. So will just cancel her card and use mine when we get back to UK. Once our deposit has been lodged we can close the account. Theres no way Im paying $300 dollars for someone to flick a switch! CASS - Oz has been good but Im missing home and my friends. Not made many over here. Also my job has just ended as has the lease on our flat and it seems like a good time to shoot home.

my parents rented a car in Oz while on vacation there. They got blitzed in a camera speed trap. The fine reached them back home in Scotland weeks later. My dad paid the fine.
