ORIGINAL: galenkia Manners cost nothing. What does it take to acknowledge that you are even aware there is someone else on the road!!.I was brought up to have manners, something that is dissapearing fast these days. For example, the woman in my local corner shop don't say please or thank you.She don't even tell you the price sometimes, just sticks her haggard old claw out and expects you to cross her palm with silver. yeah man because thats such a fullfilling, fun loving job isnt it I would treat people a bit politer if i had the money she makes in her shop.Nice 57 plate Mercedes parked outside.

I always acknowledge other drivers and have found that women have been the worst offenders for not doing so. On the lighter side last summer I let a woman, waiting to turn right into a car park, across in front of me. She smiled the smile of an angel and blew me a kiss. Quite made my day, really, cheered me up no end

ORIGINAL: Tubbs I'm taking driving lessons at the minute, and I have make a conscious effort not to! Apparently it differs from tester to tester, but some will see it as not being in control of the car, but just from watching my parents drive and from being inherently over-polite (my boss calls me "<insert actual name here>-too-nice") it's natural to acknowledge others. You can fail a driving test over here (depending on the cnutness of your tester) if you acknowledge another car with hand waving, thumbs etc.

ORIGINAL: Lord Monkcheese This rant falls under the general and all too common theme of "inconsideration". When driving, quite often I'll find myself approaching parked cars on the left hand side of the road and cars coming towards me. There is no legal requirement for either of the vehicles to give way but common courtesy says the vehicle on the same side as the parked cars should do so. It's becoming increasing more common for the driver of the other vehicle to just drive past without any kind of acknowledgement at all. Not a simple flash of lights, a raise of the hand, even a cheeky wink - nothing. Not wishing to generalise but I find the vast majority of female drivers to be the main offenders of this heinous offence and I ask you MT members, both male and female, are you one of these rude, non-acknowledging drivers, or are you a decent, upstanding member of the driving community? Not wishing to generalise but I find the vast majority of Africans to be the main offenders of these various heinous offences. I'm not sure where they learn to drive (or if they learn) but some of the things they do wreak of stupidity and show no consideration for other drivers. I also find that Eastern European reg cars seem to generally take crazy risks when it comes to overtaking etc. This may be the fact that they are sitting on the left instead of right of course.
