Cycled?
Constant?
Loading?
Week on Week off?

Read the creatine article but not sure weather to give it a break or just load up again, half way down a tub of 240, 700mg caps.

Constant (except holidays), currently having 6-8g a day for 2 weeks to boost levels up a bit more (as I had a week off), but will go back to 3-5g after that. Wouldnt really class that as loading though.

I had this too im on my 2nd or 3rd week using it 5g Daily.

But im not sure once i come to 8 weeks to cycle it or keep it constent or switch to loading it. I think its one of those things of Trial And Error to find which one works best for you,

Why? No 'hormonal product' or gear will effect the ergogenic properties of creatine.

I wrote an applied lit. review of creatine optimization HERE

I still use its principles with all of my clients/athletes today.

I've been pondering this idea for quite some time. I'd appreciate everyone's input on it.

I was under the impression it became less effective after 2months or so, hence why many advocate using it for periods. Am I mistaken?

Most use creatine for its ability to add muscle fullness (fluid retention) and some for its ATP conversion for quick energy. While on a hormonal product/steroid Ive never needed fullness due to increased glycogen storage and energy is not a factor while on unless youre on MIT which will suck the ambition out of anyone.lol

Ive never seen much energy/endurance from creatine but only muscle fullness. So its your call but Id still keep it for pct or when not on cycle.

Not used for a while, but when I did time on = time off.

2-3g of CEE pre and post workout I found to be the most effective.

David

Firstly, thanks for sharing your article on MT

It’s been a while (5+ years) since I last used creatine but was thinking of using it again, and read your article with interest

I have a few questions I hope you’d be able to help out with

You quote the figure of 0.03g of creatine per kg BW per day for maintenance (as the upper limit required)

(I’m approx 85kg so this would equate as a max requirement of 2.5g per day for maintenance for me)

You suggest that typically one would get approx 1g creatine through diet per day

(Using these assumptions I should supplement with approx 1.5g creatine per day for maintenance dose)

In your article you discuss the merits of taking creatine around ‘workouts’ and ‘physical activity’ but not on rest days. I thought this was a little vague (sorry); in your opinion should this just be around resistance training or resistance training and cardio sessions – what do you define workouts or physical activity as?

For someone like me (three weights and three cardio sessions per week) this difference could mean I’d be half or double dosing your suggesting – hope you see that I’m not trying to split hairs here

Regarding loading, the first words of your summary you say

Research suggests that once fully loaded…

But in your article you don’t mention your thoughts on loading. I guess this is outside the scope of your article but could I pick your brains on this. I presume you do think loading is necessary? As the general argument in your article is that people may be supplementing with too much creatine for maintenance, do you think that a typical creatine loading protocol is also too much or about right (for arguments sake take the loading protocol from James’/Jack Hammer’s creatine FAQ http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-creatine.aspx - below)?

Loading phase:

10g per day, as 2 x 5g servings for 5 days
5g per day, for 5 days
3g per day, for 7 days.

Would your loading recommendations be similar to this?

The reason I ask these questions is that I was looking to use your recommendations – but wasn’t 100% clear on these details

Many thanks in advance

sad pear, sorry I originally missed your post.

Good call about the loading. I cover this more in depth in The Anabolic Index manuals, suffice it to say that I the doses you posted are in line with what I use. Nearly identical in fact.

quote:

10g per day, as 2 x 5g servings for 5 days
5g per day, for 5 days
3g per day, for 7 days.
