I dont realy get properly sore anymore, especially biceps they just dont realy get sore, its pretty much like this with my chest, forearms, calfs and shoulders a bit.

My training is intesne i train to failure alot, i supplement creatine and whey protein.

So why am i not getting satisfactory soreness?

i find i get 'sore' whenever i switch up my program

soreness however indicates nothing

well that totally throw's arnies 'no pain no gain' rite out the window.

although i personaly do like to feel a lttle ache/sore/pain what ever people want to call it. it make me fel better. [;)]

You don;t have to feel pain to be growing or increasing performance.

i go by how sore i am. I trained back for to long getting nowhere. For me soreness is a good indication. Thats what i go by

feeling sore the next day might be reassuring but its not the marker of a good workout... we just love to think it.
If i was to whack out 100 push ups followed by 100 burpees i'd be a cripple the next day i think but the workout would not of been productive, only thrashed my CNS (central nervous system) and displayed the damage lactic acid can do to muscles.

gauge your workouts on your progress over a period of 6-8 weeks, adjust as neccesary, do not tinker every week [:)]

Agree, i know plenty of people who never get doms but grow like bamboo.

post your stats and training history up, maybe a pic and i'll enter a debate about the whole 'soreness = results'

most people who work out and the next day are dissapointed with no soreness usually work harder next time until they are crippled.
they are usually beginners and look like the average joe too

maybe so mate, but beginners usually do a bunch of isolations. I think sorness from heavy compounds is a good sign of progress, for me it is. People your referring to have no apperciation of the proper training protocol, so its pretty misleading to put that down to soreness = results rather than very poor exercise choice

But how is it a marker of a good workout?
I can go bowling and have a sore arm the next day through the repeated action of curling the ball, doesnt mean it was a great workout.

granted performing exercises such as deadlifts,squats,oh press is preferential to any isolation exercise but many trainers who have some serious experiance under their belt do not get sore the next day week in week out.

Yet they are progressing in weights lifted and the tape measure bulging outward

Yes a bloke on here who is also my old training partner (nymjam) only gets doms when he has long periods off.

FWIW I don't go by soreness. I get it a bit but not much, yet my lifts keep increasing

The only time it's bad is after lifting for the first time after a lay-off, or trying something new

Fair enough there's probaly no scientific basis, but it helps mentally, for the placebo affect

i agree with you there quest, if you are sore, there is a thought that you have had a good workout but as said above, soreness doesn't essentially equal growth

i tend to get sore following a work out day if i havent worked out in say a week or so due to a holiday or sickness. otherwise no soreness for me and i usually lift until failure!
