Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a back to basics approach to sort my body out and I'm looking for some pointers on where to look. At the moment I'm 30, about 5ft 7" and 244lbs... which makes me a serious lard-ass!

I have trained on and off most of my life, but never quite got the food/ sleep/ train balance right... when I was last training about 4 years ago I got down to 183lbs (but was still 20% BF :() but I was doing some wacky nonsense with Atkins.

I am just about to sign up to a decent gym again and I've not 100% decided on a routine yet, was previously doing an upper/ lower split 3 days a week with alternate 3 days 20 mins HIIT and one rest day (using Body For Life book for training routine, using pyramid drop sets or something like that) - I'll probably either do that or a 3 way split with 5x5 or something and a couple of days cardio.

Anyways.... my long term goals are obviously to reduce my BMI, waist size and BF, but I also want to take advantage of how big I am just now as much as I can.... I'd especially like to make my arms bigger (historically I've always had big legs and small arms, like a frigging T-Rex!)

I am particularly confused as to what sort of diet approach I want to be taking.... the obvious choice of starting back training would seem to be a bulk cycle, but given how bulky bits of me are at the moment, I don't know if that's the best idea, or if I should look at more of a cal controlled diet initially and a bulk later.... any pointers as to calorie planning, P/C/F ratio etc for someone seriously overweight (my BMI is about 38!!!) would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

if your overweight, that means you are already in exess cals (bulk) so just do the weights/cardio and see how it goes.

If your already 244lbs and want to lose weight I wouldn't do a bulk diet.

Check your normal eating habits & adjust them as much as you can to eat more healty & get cardio done!!

I could be wrong but if your only just starting back after 4 years would it not be worth going a bit easier on yourself at least for the first few weeks instead of doing 5x5??? Maybe some1 else can say!!
