Very informative Peagreen thanks M8 you know your stuff! What do you think of the TV i linked?

I actually know these TVs, bizarrely they have them splattered around the gym - a nice set, I was particularly impressed the black level stays consistent over the four sets in the cardio room, although one has a lag, but that might be its signal, nice set.

Anyway, what I see in LCDs is that blacks tend to be milky (grey) if you do not keep them adjusted but I have not noticed any of this on the Samsung. The Sony Bravia is also a noteworthy set - if my trusty 24" JVC widescreen CRT ever fails me, then that is what I shall get eventually.

I looked into the Xbox image, its a problem that the gaming consoles output and its called 'page tearing' - in basic terms it is where the image is not synching to the TV set properly and to give a fluid motion from the console it changes images half way through and that causes the anomaly, hence page tearing. I'd imagine 99% of people would not even notice - its an artefact born of todays LCDs and plasma's because unlike older CRTs they use refresh rates and old TVs use v-synching and that is where the console is ahead of or behind the TV as it were.

The TV signal is output in a standard that was set at the start of time itself lol, until everyone only has LCD nothing can change - blame the inventor and black and white, then how colour was tagged into the transmission signal................... its a backwards compatability problem.

God I'm boring myself, I'll get my coat.

Not at all mate i appreciate the input. Think i will go for that one, though i am trying to find one that i can get extended warranty thrown in. Currys etc seem only to have the later model in their stores which is about £200 more but only seems to benefit from a higher contrast (30000 instead of 15000:1) Do you think higher contrast makes that much difference?

Mate just remember your tv is as good as the signal going in. Just becauase you can spend £££££ does not mean that the picture will look any better than on £500 tv. Especially on a 40" below screen.

That screen wont do 1080P.

Shame your wrong and my 360 is outputting 1080p
If the screen did not do it then it would not have the option under the 360's options on display

LOL, a 20" screen WILL NOT do 1080P. Smallest one with TRUEHD that I have seen is the Sony 40" W series of LCD's.

My 42" Plasma wont do native 1080P.. it can RECIEVE a 1080P and scale it down to the native res though.

Well ok its not full 1080p but

If you set the TV to output in 16:9 widescreen, the TV will display at 945p - so it'll be letterboxed slightly. If you set it to full screen, it will display at 1050p - but the image will be cropped down the left & right hand sides (The reason for this is that it's a 16:10 display, rather than a traditional 16:9 widescreen). So no, it won't quite display the full 1080p - but close enough. If you're feeding it a 1080i/p source then it should look better than most 720p (768p) displays of a similar size
