QUestion for Cubed or any other techno geeks! I am after an LCD TV around 40". I think i will go for Samsung but i am unsure whether to get HD Ready or full HD 1080P.

Someone said that it isnt worth getting 1080P unless i get 46" or larger. Do you think this is the case?

Cheers!

That just seems the standard these days anyway. Even though Blue ray is the only format that is utilised in 1080p. 1080p is already been replaced by something called "quad
layer". My geeky mate told me that.

Should add it does depend on the signal going to the TV, standard sky broadcast on 720, HD is 1080I.

IMO opinion at the min 1080 (full hd) isnt worth it at the minute but for the sake of a couple of hundred extra quid its probably worth getting it just to future proof.

Yea too right, that's what I meant, I've been looking at these for a while now, nearly all seem to be 1080P. It makes me laugh, when this came out loads of my mates had to have one. I told them that nothing is broadcasted yet in 1080P I think at time one lad pain quite a bit. I don't think he even had a BR player.

Yea get it mate, they are so cheap these days anyway. I would. When they were first released they were expensive and i would have said don't bother. Is the 360 output not on 1080I anyway?

Yea got my 360 on a 1080p 20" tv and games like Gta4 (The city) and Gears of war look amazing

Misses has her 360 on a 32" Samsung tv 1080i and the picture is just the same but bigger

Worth it but as been mentioned you can them really cheap now even no name brand tv's are going really cheap and displaying 1080p

You will however not notice any difference between 1080p or 1080i unless you have a really good eye and go looking for differences

Either way they still look better than being on a rubbish old tv

Depends really some channels look sh!te and others dont think it boils down to if your on Sky and getting a good pic

The next size screen will be 2K or 2048x1556 pixels and that is regarded as the basic resolution of film - however there is nothing that can capture for domestic use higher than HD which is 1920x1080. Therefore HD is the new must have.

The reason some images look good and others look sh!te is that it depends how much bandwidth is dedicated to that particular channel. You'll find that Sports and Movies get more bandwidth and therefore look better - its all about the compression, more compression less bandwidth, more channels.

Quad layer that was mentioned has nothing to do with television technology - it is a DVD format of storing the imagery.

Why would a domestic Xbox or PS3 be giving out a signal of 24fps, and not 25fps - I need to look into that, sounds a bit odd to me. However not being a gamer I do not know about these things.

Final Note - do not go for an HD Ready TV if you can afford to go for a full HD image, as HD Ready is usually the intermediate resolution of 720P.

I've posted this before but having worked at Sony and seen the new oLED screens, I'm not bothering with plasma or LCD. I shall wait for these puppies to be released.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/12/sony-1-000-000-1-oled-tv-on-sale-in-2007/

Sony let the general public view the new 27" version which is true HD at NAB (North America Broadcast conference) a couple of weeks ago - I saw it a few years ago as a prototype - bloody amazing.
