ORIGINAL: darkershade so does it reduce the effect of the v taper. Would it make someones pysique look much worse if they already had wide hips? yes i would say it does effect your v taper, if it puts size on your waist as most seem to agree then it must.

ORIGINAL: jack5r Deadlifts won't effect your V from the much. Thats more down to big obliques. Depth wise (from the side) I think it will take away from the V slightly but won't be very noticable for a long time. How can you state that as fact when you've only just started deadlifting, with a bodyweight of 65kg? It's baffling, it really is.

ORIGINAL: irishbeast Yes. I started weight training with a lean stomach and a 34 inch waist. Now I have a massive belly and a 40 inch waist. They've definitely worked for me!! how do deadlifts make your belly look more bloated?

i dont care if my midsection is thicker, infact i see this as desirable! a thick musclular core both looks good and is 100% necessary for heavy lifting and general back health. also good to avoid hernias and stuff i would think

ORIGINAL: mishima To worry about your beard when your head is about to be cut off is a daft idea. You will widen your mid section or any other bodyparts by eating more or by eating the same amount and doing less, end of. Exercices have nothing to do with that. Why would you deprive yourself? If there was one or two exercices to be done, the deadlift would be one of them. If your goal is bb then a big blocky waist is not desirable and deadlifts arn't necessary unless your a powerlifter,if exercise doesn't increase the muscle mass of the waist area can you explain the 5 inch LEAN gain mine has made?

No i cant! Genetics? Not as lean as you think? I believe the deadlift is necessary, if you dont train your posterior chain while you train the rest you may create imbalance and lower back problems in the future. Whatever your purpose is, even and especially someone who has never touched weights before, an old woman, someone out of the hospital. The deadlift and the squat can and should be adapted to any trainer. I hear your point about big blocky waist not wanted when you're a BB. But who wants a big blocky waist anyway? I've never seen any lifter actually deformed by the deadlift, while on the other hand i see on a regular basis furious curlers and/or lads who bench only and have chicken legs. If the deadlift was to widen your waist, it sure makes bigger legs and a larger back. Someone posted pics of Pudzianowsky, looks more than ok to me, any strength athlete would suffice providing you trim some fat sometimes. People cant be serious when they worry about the way their waist might look in the mirror when their lower back they never see is their weakest point and the bedrock of any trainer.

The deadlift is not 'necessary'. The deadlift is just one of many ways to train the posterior chain. Kerry Kayes advises bodybuilders to replace squats and deadlifts to keep a narrow waistline. Others advise that life is not worth living unless you add the deadlift to your workout. Do deadlifts and squats give you a thicker waist? Not in all cases. Can deadlifts and squats give you a thicker waist? Yes they can.

A large proportion of the population would benefit from getting rid of their cars and walking to work.
