Still doesn't answer whether you think Squats and Deadlifts can also result in a thinner waist.

ORIGINAL: Roots WTF?!?!? Who's that?? Quads are silly huge...! Thoroughly impressive, but balance is awful.. Squats/deads will thicken your waist if you're predisposed to a thicker waist, much like bicep curls will thicken your bicpes if you've got good genetics for biceps... Only way to find out it to try them - if your waistline expands, and you don't want it to, swap over to lots of leg pressing and extensions, and seated rows/back extensions/etc. Remember reading something Arnie wrote about having to trick his legs that he was doing big squats 'cos he didn't want his waist to expand. IIRC on back leg presses or whateevr the hell they are was the flavour of the month. To whoever said use a smith machine - not a great idea, builds in weaknesses by forcing you into a single plane of motion. Long term this ain't good.

From my question. quote:
Can I add another question in here. Can deadlifts and squats give you a thinner waist? So if deadlifts can make the waist bigger but also make it smaller, what would you do differently to achieve either result? Or is this person specific, e.g. Trebor finds his waist gets bigger, someone else may find their's gets tighter?

The reason for popping into the thread was that there is a lot of talk suggesting that deadlifts will or will not give you a thicker waist. Neither is true at all as there are cases on www.muscletalk.co.uk and in the real world which contradict either side of the debate. (I didnt see your previous question so I apologise for missing it. There were a few posts at around the same time taking us to the next page.)

Some great clips of him on YouTube from his younger days to much more recent times. There's an interview of him in his off-season condition and he weighs in around 270lbs and is very 'soft'. But he pulls up his shorts legs and his legs still completely dominate his body - cuts and separation on them even though he's carrying a large amount of BF. He'll go far that one, mark my words.

On the interview I mention above (can't locate link just yet) he mentions his weight has increased about 30lbs each year from a lithe 210lbs up to the 270lbs mark. So young too - he may take the mass monster look to new levels.

ORIGINAL: mishima To worry about your beard when your head is about to be cut off is a daft idea. You will widen your mid section or any other bodyparts by eating more or by eating the same amount and doing less, end of. Exercices have nothing to do with that. Why would you deprive yourself? If there was one or two exercices to be done, the deadlift would be one of them. If your goal is bb then a big blocky waist is not desirable and deadlifts arn't necessary unless your a powerlifter,if exercise doesn't increase the muscle mass of the waist area can you explain the 5 inch LEAN gain mine has made? surely squats would also have an impact on this mate as they also work the core, no? Yes mate ive also dropped heavy low rep squatting for that reason,i do higher reps narrow stance slow controlled with short rest periods which reduces the need for heavy weight. Legs are also far better than when i was using much heavier poundage and low reps.

Damn, that would have to of been one mother of a diet if he turned up in any sort of condition. For his age - mindblowing size.
