I'm currently doing 4 X 10 sets at the moment as advised by a trainer at the gym.

I'm wondering if I would be better going for 3 X 8 with a heavier weight.

I'm trying to bulk at the moment and as a new starter want to get off on the right foot.

3 x 8 sounds fine to me
i ignore gym workers as they usually drip feed you misinformation to get you to sign up for 1-2-1 sessions
