Rhez -> Yet another Dead lift form check part 2 (Apr. 30 2008 15:13:18)

I'm a recent deadlift convert myself so I can not advise as good and others but you need to keep your arms straight

tristram -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz (Apr. 30 2008 15:38:42)

i dont like the way your shoulders are infront of the bar (looks like they are).

kep your shoulders behind it as rather than pulling UP you want to be pulling BACKWARDS.

when the bar is at your knees id prefer a more fluid movement to locking out, it looks like youre trying to do it in two stages. get the bar to your knees then thrust the hips forward. it looks like your thrusting, and then leaning back.

Actually pretty good mate.

Points would be

1) Sort the music out. 'Arise' by Spultura has been shown to increase numbers

2) Get that arm straight unless you want a torn bicep.

3) There is no need to lean back, you are not actually training anything (glutes, erectors etc) in a meaningful and useful way and you risk injury.

The deadlift is in effect two pulls so don;t worry too much about there being a leg portion and then hip pull but smooth them out and don;t go too far through wiuth the hips..

iaink -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz (Apr. 30 2008 17:34:54)

Spot on from Drew. Particulary in ref to Sepultura! They have a compilation album out which is sooooo good in the gym. Despite having all the tacks on it I should get hold of it just to train with.

BencherRdg -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz (Apr. 30 2008 18:36:22)

I thought hips should have been lower or is that dependent on arm length?

drewsky -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz (Apr. 30 2008 18:39:07)

... and flexibility and (less so) control though the hips. Getting the hips lower but loosing the shape in the lumbar is a phyrric victory.

Oly lifters will get very low but their ROM is great.

How likely is this as my under grip arm bends slightly on the first part of the pull. I think it is just to help me get a good grip. Should I only be worried about a torn bicep if I can feel it really pulling/stretching/hurting or could it just happen at any time?

drewsky -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz (Apr. 30 2008 18:47:18)

You'll feel a stretch before an even like this but you may only have a few 10th of a second warning. It depends upon the state of the tissue.

Either way it doesn't have to be a tear, you can strain the muscle and that will put you out of action as well. Either way as the numbers go up this will be a weak link.

Yeh looking back at my vid they are, that would explain why i am feeling more pressure on the balls of my feet rather than the heels.

ties in with my statement above.

Actually pretty good mate. Cool that made me feel better

Points would be

1) Sort the music out. 'Arise' by Spultura has been shown to increase numbers Lol yeh that was just the local station playing, i hardly ever even notice the music TBH, but yeh that is a cool tune.

2) Get that arm straight unless you want a torn bicep. Did not even realize i was TBH, glad you spotted that one, torn Bicep, NO THANKS

3) There is no need to lean back, you are not actually training anything (glutes, erectors etc) in a meaningful and useful way and you risk injury. Not really sure why i do this, unless it maybe has something to do with most of the weight feeling as though it is on the balls of my feet rather than the heels.

will take these point to heart and the gym, cheers.

Rhez -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz Part two now showing. (May 6 2008 22:26:18)

Lads would you be as so kind to have another butchers Here please.

I have taken the advice above i am now keeping my arms straight, this i think has made me realize that i may need to lower the weight somewhat [:(] as i reckon my arms must have been doing a hell of a lot more than they should have been.

It actually feels as though i have stepped backwards, your advice is much appreciated.

SiphaSi -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz Part two now showing. (May 6 2008 22:35:36)

Remember to keep ur back nice and straight, looks like you might be arching it slightly.

I noticed that also, it may be as i said iwas using my arms to do alot of the lift before, so maybe i need to lower the weight and start again, what do you think?

SiphaSi -> RE: Yet another Dead lift form check Plzzzz Part two now showing. (May 6 2008 22:43:11)

If the weight is causing you form difficulties then yes I would drop it back slightly a focus on a nice clean lift, either way your definately getting there.

Maybe try and get your hips a bit lower at the very start of the lift and drive upwards from there, keeping your back as stright as possible, your arms however do look alot straighter than before [sm=thumbsup.gif]
