thenoble06 -> From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (Apr. 30 2008 19:53:51)

Hey,

I'm a newbie on here - and to weights in general. I've been training about a month now though and have totally and utterly got the weight training bug. I keep my own journal of sets and reps and my count protein, cals and carbs for my diet (I'm on the T-Dawg v2 'diet' from the T-Nation site) and keep in on a blog - but thought I might as well post my journal on here instead.

So - from now on I'll be posting my stats on here.

My goals are two fold really. I'm cutting at the moment - and I'm wanting to get down to 10% bodyfat. Once I get there - I'll go on a bulk and try add loads of lean muscle and a minimal amount of fat. That is the plan anyway... :)

I'll post after every session - and I'll put up some work in progress pics and stuff as well as I go along.

Since it is the first of the month tomorrow - it just so happens that I take my measurements today and compare them to last month. Here they are:

March (Relaxed/Tensed)
Left Bicep 11/12.5
Right Bicep 11/12.5

Chest 36/38

Neck 15.5

Waist 33

Left Leg 22/22.5
Right Leg 22/22.5

Left Calf 15.5/16
Right Calf 16/16

Bodyfat %age - 13.9

April (Relaxed/Tensed/Improvement from last month)
Left Bicep 12/13/.5
Right Bicep 11.5/13/.5

Chest 37/41/3

Neck 16

Waist 33

Left Leg 23/24/1.5
Right Leg 24/24.5/2

Left Calf 17/17/1
Right Calf 17/17.5/1.5

Bodyfat %age - 12.8

So - in the last month - dropped 1% BF, and upped all my measurements except my waist. Don't suppose I can argue with that.

Also - I'll post some pics up here soon so I have a image comparison for next month as well.

Probably best not to ask why I have my eyes closed on one of the pics (or why I'm wearing pink belt!!)

best of luck

Whats your current stats?

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 1 2008 10:04:44)

Gym day - just been and these are my weights were:

Single Arm Dumbbell Press - 14kg - 3x12 (to failure)
Dumbbell Squats - 14Kg - 3x12 (felt good)
Single Leg Leg Press - 42Kg - 3x8 (felt good)
Assisted Chins - 40Kg - 3x12 (failed on last set at 10th rep)
Bent Over Row - 16Kg - 3x12 (struggled but got through)
PressUps - 3x16 (felt good)
Special excercises from Physio to work my core (physio needed after slipped disk op) - completed

From those stats - no weights have improved from last week, but the reps for PressUps, Leg Press and Bent Over Row have improved.

For my next workout - I'll up the weights for Squats to 16Kg (3x8), up Pressups to 3x18 and up Bent Over Row to 18Kg (3x8).

Onwards and upwards!!

Hiya mate.

Glad you've got a journal up and running, the guys and gals on here are great support and motivation so check out some of the other journals too.

Are you aiming to increase lifts each workout or seeing how it pans out for now?

Oh - and why DO you have your eyes closed and a pink belt on.........[;)][:D]

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 1 2008 12:46:07)

Hey you :)

Yeah - I try and progress in every session - either with higher weights or more reps. I'll be upping a few weights at my next session on Saturday. I'm only lifting relativly low weights now compared to a lot of other people - but since I'm a newbie I'd rather get my form nailed early and then when I move up the weights I'll not be injurying myself. Also - I only had my op for three slipped disks a few months ago so I'm doing everything in small steps. Something must be working though - all my measurements went up and my BF went down.

Do you have a journal?

And pink sets off my eyes I'll have you know :)

well said that man! nice to see a new member with such a sensible attitude! good luck with it all

lradford -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 1 2008 13:12:12)

Definitely agree re getting the form right.
There is nothing funnier than seeing guys in the gym trying to impress with high weights that they can barely lift properly! Correct form always pays off in the end - and especially with your back probs.

Pink does NOT set your eyes off!! [:D]

I did have a journal - have been thinking of resurrecting it but for the minute I don't really have the time for it. Plus I've been saying for weeks now that I'm gonna get updated pics and never have. Might get around to a semi resurrection soon once the exams are out of the way.

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 2 2008 16:07:01)

Hey LL,

I'd have thought getting back into training and getting a journal would be a good way to relax, shift your mind away from all the revision and exams? You'll go mad if you work and revise all the time. You need some 'me' time! I recommend more training and more Fabric sessions :)

lradford -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 2 2008 17:16:45)

Advice noted - and I'd be happy to follow it!!

Training does help de-stress me and relax better, it's more just the time constraints right now. On training days I tend to get home about 8:30, not leaving much time at the end of the night once I've had dinner etc. I had planned some morning sessions, but just find that I'm knackered at the minute so better to give it a few more weeks rather than stress about trying to fit everything in.

You find that you're fitting everything into your new schedule ok?

Lol - it's the Fabric nights that hampered my training last summer, as you well know!!!

firest0rm -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 2 2008 17:27:41)

Hey noble, just want to say good luck at reaching your goals. Also well done on the progress you've made, it's good work.

Tip: Next time you post pics put them the right way up so I don't look a div turning my head on its side to look at them [8D]

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 10:51:40)

Hahaha - good point fires0rm - I'll sort it for next time! Don't want you to crick your neck and have to miss a session :)

So - just back from gym - another session and some improvements on the weights I lifted:

Dumbbell Squats - 16Kg - 3x8 (Easy - in fact very easy - probably due to doing them at beginning of workout) Will up reps to 12 next time.
Dumbbell Bent Over Row - 16Kg - 3x12 (Struggled on last couple on each arm)
Single Arm Bench Press - 14Kg - 3x12 (Struggled on last couple on each arm)
Single Leg Leg Press - 52Kg - 3x8 (Struggled on final set - esp on full ROM - kept good form though)
Press Ups - 3x18 (Failed on final set at 15. Couldn't force any more out)
Assisted Dips - 35Kg - 3x8 (Struggled but completed sets with good form)

So - although I upped weights on Squats, Leg Press and Dips and had to work hard on most excercises - I still came away feeling not as happy with the workout as I normally do. I must be having an off day. So - anyway - next session I'll up reps on Squats and leave everything else as it is. I try and make some improvement - however small - after each session to keep pushing myself. Hopefully I'll feel a bit better after tomorrows session.

Also - why doe no one else ever seem to do leg excercises in the gym I go to? I've been going to the gym for over a month now - 4 times a week (4x4=16sessions - I'm good at maths eh!) and I've never seen anyone else do Squats, with Dumbbell or Barbell. I've seen a couple of people doing leg presses but 99% of people just wotk the throphy muscles. Prime example today - someone was working out and his top half was ripped - really well defined shape and a ton of lean muscle - basically the look I want. BUT - he had shorts on and no joke - I'm surprised his legs were able to support his upper body. He looked so out of proportion is was daft. No way do i want to end up like that. I've also read somewhere that due to your leg muscles being some of the biggest muscles on ther body - working them releases more growth hormones thst will aid in muscle growth all over the body.

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 10:54:29)

Hiya LL,

Yeah - I'm fitting all my training, better (100% better) diet, work and revision in really well at the moment. Well actually I'm knocked the revision on the head - but I REALLY need to get motivated for that soon so I'll start up on that again later.

BTW - I know you said your Fabric sessions were your downfall - but I think I'm coming down to London soon for a mammoth session - I'll check the dates and FB you...

beefycol -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 11:54:41)

good look, i be watching your progress

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 14:20:48)

Cheers Beefy - I'll aim to please :)

firest0rm -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 17:33:42)

Ha yea there is a big beefy guy at my gym, at least 17 stone and bodyfat sub 12%, and his legs actually appear skinnier than mine!

is he tall? there a monster at my gym, he bout 6ft4ish. dont look like he trains his legs because his upper body so big and hes tall. but he can lift some god dam weight with his legs

firest0rm -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 3 2008 21:05:06)

He's taller than me and I'm 5 10, I would guess he was at least 6 foot. I've never seen him train legs.

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 4 2008 10:31:15)

Jeez - now I know why it is bad to do two workouts in two days.

Normally I leave at least a day between sessions - but since I did a sesh on Saturday - and I'm not able to do a sess on Monday (blame Technique and there Garden Party!!) I figured I'd try one today instead.

At least I'm learning from my mistakes...not good on the body (for me) to do two sessions in two days:

Dumbbell Squats - 16Kg - 3x12 (Hard work but didn't really struggle as such)
Dumbbell Bent Over Row - 16Kg - 3x12 (Not too bad - thinking of upping to 18Kg and 3x8 next time)
Single Arm Bench Press - 14Kg - 3x12 (Struggled on last couple on each arm)
Single Leg Leg Press - 52Kg - 0x0 (My back felt weak when doing these - and I was not going to risk another injury so I left them)
Press Ups - 2x18 (Only 2 sets of 18 instead of 3 - I was knackered!!)
Single Leg Calf Raises - 35Kg - 3x12 - (Not too bad - could up weight for next time)
Assisted Dips - 35Kg - 3x8 (Struggled but completed sets with good form)

So my Leg Presses and Press Ups were a bit of a disaster. For my next session I'm leaving my squats the same for a week or so to make sure my back is strong enough for more weight. I'll up my calf raises as well.

My diet has been a bit up and down this week - had a couple of cheat meals which Ii'll cut out next week and get back on track. All in all - all things considered - not a bad week but can defo do better diet wise...

firest0rm -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 4 2008 11:04:16)

That's what I love about bodybuilding; you're constantly learning and evolving. You don't suddenly get to a point where you know everything, because that point is unachievable in my opinion. The fact that you can learn from your mistakes shows promise, keep it up [8D]

thenoble06 -> RE: From skinny weakling to muscled God in ?? steps! (May 8 2008 11:55:39)

This week hasn't started very well. My weekend went on longer than the weekend should (!) - quite a bit longer - which meant I was unable to get the the gym on Tuesday (or Wednesday) and my diet upto Tuesday was a bit poor.

Still - I went today and did OK - and my diet today and yesterday has been good - so as long as I need to make sure I put the effort in for the rest of the month to try make gains. Those monthly figures are all important! I'm determined to make up for the bad few days and get some improvements again...

So - my stats from today:

Dumbbell Squats - 16Kg - 3x12 (Hard work, was blowing hard by the end but felt good)
Dumbbell Bent Over Row - 16Kg - 3x12 (Not too bad - thinking of upping to 18Kg and 3x8 next time)
Single Arm Bench Press - 14Kg - 3x12 (Not too bad - struggled on last couple)
Single Leg Leg Press - 52Kg - 3x8 (My back still felt weak when doing these - esp the right leg. I think because of this my ROM isn't what it should be. Think I'll lower the weight and make sure my form and ROM are better and up the reps.)
Press Ups - 3x18 (I hate these - but got through them)
Assisted Chins - 35Kg - 3x8 (Not as bad as I thought they would be)

So for Saturday I'll up BOR to 18Kg, lower Leg Press but get good form, and up reps on Chins.

Also - made some MRP bars. Not very yummy (yet - need to change receipe slightly) but I'm hoping they will help me stop snacking on crap!
