Ok I wasn't sure where to post this, but it's to do with diet, lets say your fed up of eating because you have a rubbish appetite, could you inject yourself with amino acids? I have heard amino acids can filter through your kidneys and stay in the bloodstream, so wouldn't this be a good idea? *Please note, I am not going to try this.

LOL,I personally wouldnt recommend anyone trying this, and glad your not going to. Just eat to your needs and try to mix the proteins up that you consume.

In theory you could just inject yourself with any nutrient provided it's in the state it would normally be once on the blood side of things in the gut. In practice, I think it would raise psychological issues - though the body would be fuelled, sensations of fullness come from the stomach. James or someone may know better on the hormone paths involved, but I'd guess you would still feel starving... You could hook up a feeding tube if you wanted though, Righty toyed with idea IIRC! (again, not a good plan though!)

In my old lab we'd infuse (inject) amino acids via I.V.. Even if this were tried intramuscularly, the necessary sanitary procedures are so rigorous that you can't do it outside of a specialized clinical lab setting. [just thinking of it again makes me shudder lol]

My niece is 3 and all her food comes from being tube fed directly into stomach because of feeding issues.

That must be bad for your niece adam. But just eat protein from foods mate, having to swab your arm and stick a needle in your vein before food doesnt bare thinking. Idont see what great difference in muscle building you would see either and potential infections would set you back

I have posted on this before - search parenteral and enteral in this and the General forum and you should find some of my past thoughts. Injecting amino acids is not a simple thing. Enterally tube fed protein is a better idea
