| DannyH -> RE: 5k & 10k (May 6 2008 14:18:18) | Hi Guys I was just about to start a topic on this when I saw your post. I am in a similar position to you N2L, I am about 14.5 stone and play rugby all through the winter (Winger/fullback), now the season is over I have started to do more running and have completed my first proper 10k race yesterday in Watford. Now obviously training for both disciplines is completely different, but I think I will see some added benefit come the new season in terms of improved fitness. For the last year I have also started lifting weights on a FB program, consisting of the normal bench, squat, seated rows/pull downs, dips/pull ups, and some isolation work, to help with my general strength and for aesthetic purposes !! Would this sort of program work along side middle/long distance running ? If not would it have any noticeable detraction against my possible performance ? I would ideally like to continue my weight work even if this meant modifying it somewhat to help improve my running, my time yesterday was 51m 54s so not fast but not to bad for a first attempt I would like to try and get my time down under 50m this year if possible. Thanks Danny |
