matt08 -> Head pain - pull ups (May 1 2008 13:41:30)

I've recently started doing pull ups (back & biceps exercises) again after not doing them for quite a while, and, as well as hating the exercise, I get a sudden pain in my head. It normally happens when I reach the top - normally a pain in the right side of my head, then have to stop and my head feels so tense, but it goes away after a couple of minutes. This seems to happen every time I do pull up, and not on any other exercise. Yesterday I did pull ups, and the pain was slightly worse, and I've still got a slight ache from it.

What could be the problem? Is it an exertion pain?
Which exercise can I do to replace pull ups?

I wouldnt look for an excersice to replace them - i would get your problem sorted, there is obv something wrong somewhere in your neck or something not right

go to a chiro or something if i were you

Often people lead with the chin, where you get most of the way up using arms and lats etc but make the last part by straining forward with the neck and in a few cases this can cause sudden pain if there is some underlying dysfunction.

This would be the 1st thing I would check.

The best bet would be to see a SPORTS physio and they will try and get to the route of the problem, they may even get you to try a few in front of them.
