I seem to be the only person at work who still uses a good old video to record telly on - as far as I'm concerned it does the job so why buy 'owt else. Anyone agree?

The only means of recording TV progs available to me is by video but the only video player is a built-in one in the kid's 15" TV. So I generally make sure I'm in if there's anything on I want to watch.

What a truly bizarre first post...!! Congrats & welcome As to the question - no. VCR's even when box fresh weren't a great solution for recording TV, nowadays with good Freeview PVR's knocking about for £80, I scarcely see the point of a VCR at all...

Yeah, I use VCR for recording. Need to start thinking about a DVD recorder tho, seems a bit daft as I have a decent DVD player so until the VCR gets knackered I may as well stay with it.

ORIGINAL: Lord Monkcheese Tony - what's a PVR? Sounds like a Sky+ type affair but could you confirm. I wanted to use BT Vision but my broadband is so poor it wouldn't work, so an alternative would be welcome Yes, Personal Video Recorder. I've got the 160gb thompson dual tuner one, works a treat ~£90. It comes with top up TV crap, so delete all that, and you get about 60-70hrs or recording on it. You can record one channel whilst watching another, pause, rewind, record 2 at a time, etc. Not as snazzy an interface as Sky+, but it works just fine

Once you use a PVR you'll never go back to VCR or even DVD recording. I had one of those Thompson things - terrific features, tended to be temperamental and noisy. Now got BT vision which is really pretty great.

Noise ain't much of a problem - want to take it apart and put a silent fan in, but missus ain't amused!

i got a goodmans PVR, bought it from work for £29.99 (£27 after staff discount) 80gb hard drive, Have a look in sainsburys for them, GHD8015f2 is the model, they are discontinued now so you might get lucky and find one.
