Aks -> Is there a difference? (May 2 2008 21:18:54)

Hello,

I was in the gym yesterday and i was told that to get different types of ABS you can do different workouts.
I can't remember what the two examples were but one was where you would use higher weights where possible etc and the other higher reps/more sets but without weight or something like that.

sorry for sounding like a complete n00b but from the minimal info i've given i was wondering if this was true.

Cheers

I assume you mean abdominal muscles when you say ABS and its not an abbreviation for something.

A lot of people say some rep ranges are for size and others are for "definition/tone". Its garbage. Dont listen to anything anyone says in a gym. Read a book or ask questions on here.

Rep range variation is for achieving different goals ie. strength/muscle mass.

if you do compounds then 3 sets of leg raises and crunches a week IMO should more than suffice

thanks again,

when you see the front of mens health and stuff you see them ultra ripped guys, is that all down to body fat?

Lord Monkcheese -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 2 2008 23:28:49)

Yep - very low BF%, increased lean tissue, good genetics.

2 of them you have direct control over.

Correct, you can have a fantastic sets of abdominal muscles without ever directly training them.

Aks -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 3 2008 7:38:43)

sorry for all the questions, but for them too do that because they are a nice size all over usually do they bulk up and then just remove all the fat after?

fun meter -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 3 2008 9:10:15)

Yes, that is one way of doing it. Bulk up and then cut afterwards.

Regarding body fat, the more steady and sensible the bulk, the less fat you should have to loose.

yep. good answers on here

aks, most of us bulk winter and cut summer (for when we get our top off in the sun or go on hol), best to lean bulk, then you havent got much fat to lose. the lower your bf the more you will see your abs.

Cheers,

again sory for sounding like a right n00b but what do you mean by lean bulk?

At the moment i'm currently eating healtily, decent protein intake, one protein shake per day, doing 2 days cario, 4 days weights (inc. 2 days abs) so yeah what would i change/do to lean bulk? and hopefully this will help quite a few people out too as i know alot of people want a "front page mens health body" (quite alot in the beginners section anyhow)

mike20uk -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 3 2008 18:16:13)

i havent heard this before. have to have a read. mike just protein, no carbs or fats?

everyone on here wont recomend that, need carbs and fats for growth and energy, well being etc.

lean bulk if you look at my journal you seen me bulkd up, but im lean, still showing abs, and looking good then i went on a 8week cut, then i was quite ripped. when i bulk i dont do cardio, but you can will help keep fat down, keep training the same. as im still young i dont really carry fat weight. but also on a lean bulk your not eating to many cals so you wont put to much fat on.
alot of people eat i.e 4000cals and end up with a big belly then they have to cut to extreme i dont belive in it, not needed, and i wanna look good all year round

if your starting out or been training a year.
id aim for your body next summer.

beefycol -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 3 2008 19:35:13)

Aks -> RE: Is there a difference? (May 3 2008 19:45:50)

ta,

yeah i was training for the marathon so kinda gave up weights and stuff, going to look through your journal and that link now. I've got 3/4 months till i go on holiday so i'm gyming it hardcore until then anyhow but yeah next summer is when i'm aiming for my body to be at its max potential.
