deeno -> left pec smaller than right (May 3 2008 10:48:25)

Hi folks..... the lower part of my left pec is smaller than my right.... the right jus looks more fuller from the bottom part... this problem has bugged me for a while, ive tried doing more dumb bell press reps on left but that doesnt seemed to have worked. what did work before was if when doin bench press with a bar, i would bring the left side slightly lower than right, but i know this the WRONG way to do flat bench and was not something i wanted to carry on doing. does anyone know anything i can do to have my pecs lookin the same size??

before i start, might be genetics.
right next... when using a bar one side of your body might be suporting the other side thats why its got bigger. use dumbells then it cant support the other side. use same weight, same reps, same sets, same ret, train them both the same!

it will catch up (if not down to gentics) but wont happen over night, if you can post a pic so can have a look

Agree with beefy. Stick with dumbell presses for a few months, same amount of work each side, then see if it catches up. Could be genetics, could just be slightly unsymetrical.

I right pec is smaller. I think the reason is that my right shoulder bone structure appears not to be as broad and as far back as my left shoulder. It's only noticeable to me, though, I think.

Similar to me. My left shoulder is a bit more forward than my right, so my left tricep and shoulder take over when BB bench pressing. So I get un even chest growth. I now just use Dumbells (and have done for 3 months almost), and its evening out more now. But saying this, it was only really me who could see it.
I dont get an inbalance with BB OH pressing, but I get an imbalance with BB Shrugs (so I do DB shrugs) also,

No one is symetrical, just it can affect some people more than others.

Fun,

from the sounds of it your protracted shoulder is just the difference in how you hold it, this can be corrected, you shgould look into it.

I've tried to make a conscious effort to pull my shoulder back but only for 10 seconds and then I give up. Most likely, that's not long enough lol. If I thought it would work, I would be inclined to try more purposefully.

Cheers, will have a chat to my chiropractor at my next appointment (which Is soon I think). Or if I have to see the physio again.

Although I do know that I have a twist in my spine, which also affects my left rib cage a little (which is forward a bit more). Neither are noticable to anyone else really, and arent major issues (otherwise chiropractor / GPs would have mentioned it), but I will still look into this. [:)]

Thanks again Drew

No worries, what I should have said is these can be corrected, dependant upon cause of course.

It's just a good thing to try where possible to make the change as it can help with training and musculoskeletal health in the long run.

Will look into it more, as the last few months I've been doing more pre-hab, flexability, ROM and posture work to keep a good balance of things (not just 'pack on size'). Seems to be helping me, I also seem to just keep incorperating this work in as I read up more about it. Cheers [:)]
