Hey guys, Over the past couple of months I've been getting back into training and am on a cut. But, on back day after deadlifts my grip is letting me down. I feel like I have something left in the tank but not in my forearms :( Do i get those wraps to help with my grip or should i perservere and try and increase my grip strength? I'm probably leaning towards the latter really. What do you guys think? Thanks

I'm the same when I do my biceps. My forearms just give out and I can't do anything. Sorry that my post doesn't help but I'm gonna be watching this topic closely.

I read on strong lifts about trying static holds to help with grip. After DLs load the bar with less, then hold the bar for 30seconds. Havent tried it myself, but intend on doing it If I feel my grip has less endurance after DLs.

i used to be of the opinion that you shouldn't use straps, but if you figure you are trying to mainly hit your back, which is strong, but you have to use grip, which is a lot of forearm, your forearms are tiny compared to your back so they are gonna exhaust before your back, i know that is obvious but it has to be said, so you are gonna have gas left in the tank where your back is concerned. I do specific forearm work to improve my grip, but when i go heavy on deadlifts and shrugs and even lat pulldowns, anything where my grip could go and i feel it might be on the verge of, i use my lifting straps. This way i can fully exhaust my back or whatever part i'm hitting.

I think grip training is a very specialised thing and doesn't seem to happen just from gripping the barbell and hoping to get stronger. I use chalk for deads, but the only way to really develop the grip (beyond a certain weight) seem to be grip exercises.

if you are training for strength / strongman then work on your grip..use chalk or use grip exercises. IF for bodybuilding and mass etc, then use wrist straps (always help me on my deadlifts and other back exercises)

No Chalk but I do use mixed grip, used to use gloves but they did absolutely nowt! My grip is generally ok on the DLs it's when I get to my DB Rows and Lat pull down that it starts to give. I'm training at the moment to maintain strength. I think I'll get some straps but only use them when completely necessary and add some grip work in on leg day (furthest away from back day) What do you guys reck?

I would not use straps for pulldowns. Maybe a little static grip training after you train your back may be of use if your grip strength is that bad.

wrist curls, grippers, get a small piece of wood and some string/line and tie a plate on it with the string tied halfway on the wood and reel it in and then back down again
