Ok. This one is from last year or the year before (as before we've moved loads of stuff around and the Atlas stones get lifted outside and onto much higher platforms). Near to the camera is the Euro pinch and the milk urn was weighted with sand and small plates for a 'walk of pain' event. Then you have a steel plate on top of the pallets to stop them getting even more bashed. Background and left is MT member Cougarman, middle is H (lozza's bro) and right is Nick McKinless. I think Nick was training for the British 105's then so that'd be 2006.

Hi Mobster Just popping in to say very interesting journal - I'd never heard of stuff like the weaver stick exercise before reading about it in here. Out of interest, in a competition, what specifications does the stick have to meet (length, material etc) if any? I tried looking on the David Horne site but it isn't working for me Great photos too. How heavy are those stones? Dan

Wednesday I'm avoiding the leg press until after the event cos the weights so damn heavy and my back so sore that I don't wanna risk injury. So just bench and pullover today CG Bench 20-kilos (60) e/s x 8 reps, 40-kilos e/s (100) x 6 reps, 60-kilos (140) e/s x 1 rep, 75-kilos e/s (170) x 1 rep, then working max at 76.25-kilos e/s (172.5) x 3 x 1 solid reps. No collars all sweet as a nut. I felt like I could have made the 180 again. Pullover machine *12plates (of stack. Probably equates to 60-kilos) x 8 reps, 18p (90kg??) x 8 reps, stack (20plates or 100kg) plus 25-kilos pinned to the stack x 8 reps. * 1st set done before bench cos the rack was not free. Bwt a little down at 285.5lbs

Today's pic is a fairly recent one (5th April 2008). Taken at the Peter Horne memorial day at David Horne's house it shows me nigh on doing myself an injury as I do the heavy Dinnie stone lift for reps. The total set up is 187.10-kilos and I did 12 reps. David Horne, using his left, managed 20 to beat me into 2nd.

This one is of me back in March 2006. It's about the time I first benched 3 plates a side (never did that until I came to Gloucester).

is it just the camera angle, or do you bench with quite a narrow grip? I bench with 21" between the index fingers, which is unusually narrow from what I've seen of other benchers.

No. You are correct. I bench with the thumbs just about on the inside knurling - about shoulder width.

For shoulders and arms? Yes. I do 6 workouts in total and although I am currently in the last few days of training pre-competition and so doing more than usual I'd usually do 1 day on and 1 day off. I rotate the 6 workouts so the whole thing takes 12 days. Thus: day 1 Leg press CG Bench Pullover day 2 grip day 3 grip day 4 shoulders and arms day 5 grip day 6 grip repeat While I'll occasionally do a different movement (I did 6 weeks of machine press and then 4-6 weeks of viking press) the majority is seated barbell press. No front, side or rear laterals for delts. Either EZ bar curls or dumbbell curls as above (3 sets of 8 reps) and a little more (cos I like to more than need to) on triceps (3-6 sets half dips and half pressdowns). I consider myself more strength athlete than bodybuilder in that while I am most certainly a big chap (even today 283.5+lbs at 6'3) it's because of the stupid ass heavy weights I lift. Curling, in loose style, a pair of 66lb/30-kilo dumbbells combined with pressdowns with what - 190lbs - gets me the 20-inch pumped arm. Leg press with 630-kilos keeps the leg at 27-28, benching close to 400 keeps the chest at 50 and so on. I'm also a big fan of the Brawn / Dinosaur training. Most people do not need to shape their chest when they actually want to be the biggest and baddest mofo on their street. If, having become that, they then want to make it look good...

Saturday last pinch session - was a little off. I'm deffo over trained (not in itself a bad thing as the upcoming 4 days rest will see super-compensation take effect. Mind you I'm that ****ed I ought to be a beast if it works ha ha). I warmed up well, stretched etc. I also had to take the belt in one notch (as it's a lever type this involves a screwdriver). Back sore, left shoulder sore, right wrist sore but also feeling tight. Inside left thigh still 'twanging' from time to time (not helped by Lozza playfully and not really that hard wrestling it). 2HP @ 44mm equ x 6 reps, plus 30-kilos x 3 reps, plus 50-kilos x 1 rep, plus 70-kilos x 0 (not locked in), plus 2 x 1 reps. Plus 72.5-kilos x 1 rep, plus 75-kilos x 1 rep, plus 77-kilos x 1 rep, plus 77.5-kilos x 1 rep (weighed at 99.2-kilos), plus 79.5-kilos x 0 reps Dropped back to 75 but was done.

Just watched the weaver stick in use, wat a strange discipline.Where the hell did that originate, looks like a pub game or something like arm wrestling.
