Some bloke who used to train in his apartment made it up. That said, as I posted before, people have been using leverage bars (one end of a dumbbell) for years to build forearms and like most strongman events it's taken to an extreme.

Those videos are with piss weight. Most people are ****ed at 5-kilos.

Might give it a go actually, solid forearms are always good. You reckon using a one ended loaded dumb would do yea?

Yep. Use 2 collars on one side and put the weight as far away from the hand as poss. You wont need much. Forward and reverse levers will kill the parts of the forearms not worked by forearm curls. Do not over do it though as it is easy to strain the wrist.

Sunday
Only grippers to go now and todays session while it could have been a notch better wasn't too sniffy. As per Sam's earlier post and cos I though 'what the heck' I gave the Atlas stones a spin to help open the back up. Seemed to work.

Warmed up and stretched then:
Atlas Stone
50-kilo/110lbs stone x 3 pick up and stand ups, 80-kilos / 176lbs stone x 3 pickup and stand ups (not quite enough for a high platform)

One hand lift
194.54-kilos x 1 rep @ hand, 234.54-kilos x 1 rep @ hand, 274.54-kilos x right only (nowt there for left) - could have been higher.

Atlas stone
120-kilos / 264lbs x 3 pick ups only

Monday
Trained with Sam Solomi. Videoed his attempts with a Mash Monster 1 then had a go at it myself (easy peasy - was repping it).
Grippers
L/H: many attempts down to 1-2mm with my CoC 3 (about a 3.2)
R/H: several attempts with a BBSE inc 2-3 closes. Sam's 4 down to 2mm

He also had me have a go at a BB Pro - damn it was a rock. As was his BB WC.

Played around with the RT both thumbless and not - caned Sam, Loz and H easily.

Results etc will go up Sunday or late Saturday if sober enough (either drowning me sorrows or celebrating).

However, on the event prep: today my hands got the full, tight and crampy feeling which I have had in the past and is a good sign - it means I'm nigh on ready. I've had no coffee since my last session and no Eph for at least two weeks and then only on leg press day. So come Saturday when I'll be drinking Java and take a couple of the 5mg ephedrine tabs along with some painkiller I'll be 'on!'.

I also took delivery of some prize goodies today. Included from our buds at London Kettlebells was a 48-kilo (a beast) kettlebell costing £120.00 retail. Now how cool is that?

Guess who beat the 10x British Champion David Horne into 2nd place - ME!!!!!! I am now the 2008 British Grip Champion - oh yes!!

Here's what I put very quickly up on the Gripboard website:

Just back after 4 well deserved pints of ice cold Guinness and as Mike says David now has the paper work with the full and proper results. From my now hazy memory it was Gripper me, two hand pinch David with me in 2nd at 105.5-kilos (I think),still 1st I then won the thumbless Rolling Thunder and followed that with a decent left hand and a solid WR equaling (my 4th if passed would have been a 1/2-kilo more) 8.10-kilos right hand. I think I was 22 points ahead at this point and four events in the middle of the pack were spread by only 6 or so points.

As per chats with David, when we weren't pulling each other legs about '11 times winning Steve, can you imagine?' etc we both knew that you can have good days and bad days on the one hand lift. I wasn't too bad but not as locked in or sharp as last year. As per many years of advice from David I did enough. No PB's. no records, just enough.

For all the aches and pains I had pre-event and no doubt will almost certainly have post event (it comes with what we do) what won me the first place trophy today was my head. Standing on the platform, headphones on, more than once I asked myself 'how badly do you want this'. 'You ache, your muscles have been spasming all day, you almost certainly peaked on at least two events three weeks ago... do you want to win or what?'.

Apparently I did.

Great stuff mate!!!

Really good journal this is too, i think it will make a quite a lot of people add grip work to their training.

Look forward to a full write up, was there many videos taken?

Congratulations on the win!

Do you think for someone who has a naturally poor grip that work initially with grippers 2-3 times per week would help?

I have already ditched straps for deads and everything else, but looking to improve my grip.

Was thinking the captains of crush 1.0?
