Scruffy quite a lot of scientific evidence has found that decline bench actually elicits greater pec activation than flat through EMG studies.

I thought it was accepted that the angle shifts the emphasis on whether its clavicular ('upper pec') or sternal (middle and lower pec) that are dominant in the movement, but the entire pec does work as a whole. So why is it that some people say things like 'but you can't isolate one area the pec works as a whole', it has nothing to do with isolation lol. And yes there have been studies done on this, there's one where some machine detected electrical impulses and found out which exercises recruit the pecs most (I think decline and dumbells won?) and also that shifting the angle does shift the emphasis onto upper or lower region a bit. Although agreed it wasn't a big deal breaker, but important nevertheless. MM

Well i tried it last night (and hurt my bloody shoulder ) I'd NEVER ever done decline bench in my training life, i was so wobbly with it, what a wired feel it is and the shorter ROM felt wierd! I miloaded the bar too so ended up lifting far more than i though i had on. I stopped on 3rd set of 4. Strangley i did some incline BB work later on and had no issue with my shoulder. I think i need to warm up more next time and/or see phsyio in mean time Rodge
