Batman -> Can't do dips (May 4 2008 11:47:25)

I love doing wide chest dips and personally I think they've been the best exercise for getting my chest. Unfortunately they also wreck my shoulder every time I do them. Is it worth doing them with arms closer together hitting the triceps more or should I switch to another exercise?

do it closer to find out

Depends how deep you go as well. Dips cause me shoulder problems sometimes, If I go below 90 degrees. So I now go to 90degrees with my elbows, hold, then back up.

It could well be that going deep causes your shoulders to stress..person specific. Do you go particularly deep on them mate?

i stopped dips instantly once i injured myself doing them in the right shoulder. The only variation I will do is using a bench with arms behind back. I will never do close grip/wide grip dips again, much better exericses for hitting chest in my opinion

Do you do them weighted? If dips 'find' that muscle in question then move away from them IMO...I had this when doing weighted dips, i left them for a few MONTHS and found other exersise's instead, i do them again now but not weighted and just very slow and highish reps!

Mad Manic -> RE: Can't do dips (May 5 2008 17:05:53)

On your first rep do a half rep just to let your shoulders etc. 'get into' the movement then full reps afterwards, and keep your sets to 8 reps + as well. This stopped any problems for me tbh.

MMA Guy -> RE: Can't do dips (May 6 2008 8:03:01)

i get collarbone pain when doing them...i dropped them long time ago

aldo -> RE: Can't do dips (May 7 2008 0:13:27)

Ive also started to get a weird pain in my collarbone recently when doing dips

Im gona stay on 25kg weighted for a while though instead of increasing like i have been doing, dont wanna drop them completely, since ive started doing them weighted my chest has grown nicely

Dave284 -> RE: Can't do dips (May 7 2008 23:14:15)

I used to have quite severe shoulder pain, brought on by benching, but im pretty sure dips made it a lot worse. They are the only thing that makes it hurt now. Why not try some decline pressing for a while and then go back to them?

Arif -> RE: Can't do dips (May 8 2008 9:44:37)

Personally I found collarbone pain related to form. After a a few tweaks here and there I've been able to get past it. I still get it when my form slacks especially when I stick to much weight on the belt.
