Due to moving house and paying a couple of months rent/bond up front, I will be absolutely broke for a month or two. For the next four weeks, I need to get my food bill down to about £10 a week. I'm cutting which is a bonus as food intake will be less than usual.

I have enough MRP to do 2 meals a day for a month and enough whey/dex/malto for the gym for a month. Also have plenty of fish oil caps to see me through.

So I need to put together another 4-5 meals a day for absolute minimal cost. Tuna chunks are 29p a tin a Tesco, 3 tins will do me two sittings, so 6 tins a day but thats already £2.22 . Rice is dirt-cheap so a 60p bag a week will probably suffice.

Any ideas here? I need fruit and veg of course, but on an absolute budget.

Ideally, 4-5 meals a day at £1.50 a day.

Answers on a postcard! Thanks!

Presuming this is more function over flavour stuff;

Pasta, Oats, Rice etc will be your carb friends for the next month i'd guess.

^ purely for function yeah.

Oats can be thrown into a smoothie, that could potentially be a cheap meal? Cheap natural yoghurt smoothie with oats and.......?

You can get cheap wholemeal baps at supermarkets in big bags where you can put some to freeze too for later in the week

Lean mince beef from butchers - buy in bulk, weigh and cut into portions and freeze - good protein content for weight. Haggle with butcher also for an even better price

Thank me later

I'm not sure on the protein front tbh, i don't eat any fish currently and the price of meats and eggs seems to be going up at least every month

Thanks for suggestions so far. Its fruit/veg and protein sources I'm most bothered about as carbs are pretty much dirt cheap.

sweet potato - cover your veg and carbs

tinned tomato's are very cheap and would go in the mince. onions could be a good be a good call.

brocolli - is usually very cheap - its 90p a kilo in tescos.

frozen berries are usaually cheap and can go in your shakes

legumes would cover protein & carbs and one of five/ten a day

Find out what time your supermarket knocks their prices down on stuff on its sell-by date and go there at that time. Somerfield are good as they knock up to 75% off. Cheapo eggs & sardines are good for protein too.

I'd agree with what Nige says, get down the supermarket and take advantage of the red sticker frenzy lol. Somerfield are the best as they reduce their stuff much more than other supermarkets.
