Injured is the only exception simply because you physically cannot do it. I just don't like people that use old injures as excuses.

I may be wrong, but I think there's a lot of irony in this thread.

Squats are one of the best exercises, its just stupid not to do them IMO. I'll let the arguments continue though.

nope i dont squat, the reason is the risk of injury is too great and not worth it (dont want to be out for months with a bad back) besides squating isnt nessesary for bbuilding.

A month or two back I tried squatting on just 120k (60k below my normal squats for reps) and I limped out. I'm allowing it ample time to heal. Means I have to think around my normal routine to avoid hitting the lower back too much.

They're a good exercise, and I do them myself when my stomach is ok Nobody "needs" to do them though, unless they compete in an event which includes squats, in which case not training squats would be a bit bloody silly!

I have had back issues in the past. This has made me nervous about squatting heavy so I understand where many of you are coming from. That said, I have found myself able to incorporate squats into my routine by simply going lighter on the weight and increasing the reps. It's not ideal, but I have seen good results from this, and so far (touch wood) my back seems to agree.

A decent lower body can be achieved without squatting. There is no conclusive evidence to suggest squatting releases growth hormones that make your upper body bigger (I'm surprised that comment has yet to enter this thread) quote:
ORIGINAL: eddie182 Thats not strictly true. Training legs increases the amount of growth hormones released into the body. Therefore the more growth hormones in the blood stream, the more upper body will benefit. Therefore you simply do not *need* to squat, if you're training for aesthetics. Different story if you're talking about a strength trainer though. I remember a similar thread when the question "Do you train Legs?" was asked at the beginning of the year - 16 pages worth of responses!!! http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/m_2361431/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm

I just don't like people that use old injures as excuses. Doesnt really matter what you 'like' though does it. When people choose not to squat, because they weigh the risks up against the advantages, thats playing it smart IMO. Again its the whole, you must not train correctly and/or be lazy if you dont squat. Personally i would love to crack away at them like i do with Deadlifts, but it would be a very stupid move on my behalf. Im sure im in better shape than many who squat, and equally im sure there are many cases showing the exact opposite.

I could make an argument for it being a better leg exercise, its just stupid not to do them IMOin certain sports it would stupid to do them. risk of injury and personal satisfaction is not a stupid stupid reason either . I'll let the arguments continue though.

i have never seen a decent pair of legs on someone that doesnt squat its funny how people say they are scared of getting injured squatting but they are not when bench pressing, why not use a chest press machine instead of a free bar for bench press if you use leg press instean of squats??

i know alot more people who have injured themselves bench pressing rather than squatting i can think of 3 people at the gym at moment who are injured as a result of bench pressing, mostly shoulder problems

No time for this squat sh*t, the time saved can be spent of toning my arms and 6 pack.
