I tried, but it made us both feel a bit uncomfortable.

Personally I think this testicle tenderness is due to my recent return to AM cardio. I do it naked on a recumbent bike and my gonads tend to flop about.

Yup, although my form isn't great. I've seen 4 people who squat in my gym including me.

I know people with great physiques who dont squat/deadlift and as far as I know never have. This attitude of 'you're not a man if you dont squat' is a crock of sh1te.It's a great exercise for sure but it strikes me as a bit ridiculous for people who squat to sneer at people who dont.I squatted for ten years or so,then developed scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and also had a herniated disc.Switched to leg press because I cant have any weight on my shoulders and my leg development hasnt suffered at all.Far from it.I actually tried some super light squats a couple of months ago and was literally crippled by pain for a couple of days after.People who say that injuries shouldnt stop you from squatting just dont know what they're going on about.

If you're a PLer or WLer then squatting is obviously essential.

If you're a BBer and have good quad development without squats, why would you care?

I usually squat, rack the weight, turn around and growl my manliness to the gym... walk over to people training on machines and laugh heartily wallowing in my own self indulgence and superior levels of awesomeness

when you're squatting, unless you are built exceedingly well for it, the amount of loading you can use is typically limited by core stability or upper back strength. when doing higher reps, low back fatigue will generally limit you long before leg fatigue

contrast that to piling plates on the leg press where you are not limited by such

which do you think will yield more stress to the legs, the lift where a non-leg muscle is potentially limiting weight on bar or the exercise where it's not?

AK_88

a. you can do other direct core work. you'll be fine
b. if your only interest is bodybuilding and building big legs, who gives a fiddle for core anyhow

You proved my point then R - core work will not impact on superficial hypertrophy.

And in terms of compound movements

quote:

This further reinforces my point, perhaps not universally applicable to all exercises, but squats for sure.

mate you will always be able to push more on the leg press than a squat, because of a limiting factor. be it the core or weaker upper body strength

what's better for growth? a sub maximal weight, or a maximal weight

my point is a squat is neither necessary, nor necessarily optiomal
