gehhn -> Carb cycling: Fiberous vs. complex/simple (May 5 2008 14:46:58)

Another carb cycling question, as I am trying to lose some bodyfat for a trip to Florida...

Days 1-3: Only eat fiberous carbs (carrots, broccolli, cauli, cabbage, etc.) along with my protein sources, of course. Eat some complex carbs pre-workout and some simple post on lifting days.

Day 4: Load up on complex carbs--400 grams.

Repeat cycle.

My basic question is: Do fiberous carbs add to your glycogen stores the way simple and complex do? Will they add to my BF if I eat too much of them? I'm under the impression that they don't, and that they actually cost you calories since they are hard for the body to digest. Thanks!

You'd have to eat a helluva lot to get enough Calories to do that. I'm under the impression that they don't, and that they actually cost you calories since they are hard for the body to digest. There's no such thing as negative Calorie foods. All foods (except water) contain Calories and your body is always burning some energy to make the gut "work". Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm heading to Florida at the end of the month. Panama City most likely.

so on a carb up day it's best to stick to simple carbs then?

I wasn't aware of this and in the past stuck to more "healthy" carbs such as wholemeal cous cous, brown rice and sweet potatos.

ThaiFighter -> RE: Carb cycling: Fiberous vs. complex/simple (May 6 2008 10:34:12)

how low do you have to go on the low carb days? 100g? (e.g. 50 in morning, 50 after workout?)

On "carb-off days" what I do is load up on 50 g complex carb pre-workout, and 40-50 simple carb post-workout.

On "carb-on" days, I get 400 grams mostly complex spread throughout the whole day, though I may have some simple post-workout.

It's tough for me, but the results are clear!
