Hi all,

Been working out for a while now with basically no results. A bloke I work with has been really helpful recently and given me a work out to do to build size.

I'm hoping someone here can either confirm its a good idea or suggest improvements.

Diet in no real order

Daily
Protein shake with milk
Pint of milk
Chicken breast
Pasta
Chicken breast
Tin Tuna
Dinner - roast etc - pasta whatevers there
Protein shake with milk.

Work out.. twice a week

Monday

Dead lifts
Leg press
Weighted crunches
tow lift is it.. the one where you lift something that looks like this ----I-- legs on either side.. like rows.

Friday

Shoulder press
Hammer shoulder press (i think its called)
rows
hands together pull downs
bench
and crunches again

Feels like I'm not doing enough ... any tips or help ? Please

Give it some real order mate.

Plenty of tried and tested workouts at the top of the routines section.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies..

My diet it in no order because I dont eat it in any order. Just try to space it 2 hours between. My working lift means I have to fit things in.

I agree with the amount of gym time I have but he is convinced if I go more it will only make me smaller ..

Its really eating at me ....

I've been on forums like this before and the mixed results and suggestions are too much for me to break down.

I'm trying guys I really am...

You need to slap this guy! That is the most ridiculas thing I have ever heard!

When you train you are putting yor body under stress and pushing your muscles. If you train 2 x a week then it would not be enough to push all your muscles sifficiantly, to make them grow. How can you expect to work all muscle groups in just 2 day training?

You need to have a look at how many days you can train and let us know. Then we can put together a routine based on your needs.

When you train 2 x a week and this guy thinks you will get smaller, why is this? You will not get smaller, if your diet is good you will injest the correct food to provide your body with the energy it needs to train / recover.

Don't lose heart mate

Have a read of these articles, they should hopefully explain a lot of things:

http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-beginners-guide.aspx

http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-beginners-first-stop.aspx

As for going to the gym more making you smaller... well you can overdo it, but going more than twice a week won't make you shrink. I train four times per week and do quite well from it

It depends how much time you can spare. You can train twice a week if you wish, but I wouldn't use the routine your mate's given you

FWIW, I think three times a week is ample. Obviously your diet has to be in order so that you can make the most of it. Should be well worth spending some time reading and posting in the diet and nutrition sub-forums... lots of knowldegeable people there who should be able to give you pointers

I wish you all the best

I train 4 or 5 times a week. Each workout varies in intensity.

Hi guys again thanks for the replies ... its starting to get me down a bit .. not growing at all... my strength is increasing but that's all.

I work random shifts but have weights and a bench at home too .. I can work out (and am willing to) as many times as needed.. I want to get big !

I'm 5"11 and weight 12 stone .. gone up from 11.4 since I started eating more .. try to have 5 -7 small meals a day..

I get up too early for breakfast

I.e today

6:25am Protein shake

8am Pint of milk

9am chicken breast

11am banana

12pm Tin of tuna with sweet corn and mao

2pm Chicken breast and pasta

4pm banana

big gap as I come home from work

Will have another protein shake with milk before bed

now

One minute cook pasta with olive oil and mixed hurbs with cheese on top

Basically my daily diet ! sometimes not in that order depends on how long I have at each 2 hour gap.

anything I need to include ?

It isnt the worst I have seen. I am no expert on diet but I can give some guidance on when to eat.

6:25am
Whey in milk (protein shake)
natural oats or natural yoghurt
bananna

9.00am
chicken bread sandwich on whole meal bread - (maybe use some low fat honey mustard dessing

Lunch Time
Sweet Potatoe + Tuna or Chicken Bread and whole grain pasta

Mid afternoon snack
Maybe go for a little pit of natural yoghurt with fruit and nuts

Post Training
Whey in milk + 1 small piece of fruit

dinner time
maybe you could put together a stew. try and have a low fat and reletivly low carb meal at this time as you are not going to expend any energy again until the next day.

It might sound f'ing stupid but you need to keep eating to loose weight. 5 - 6 meals a day. You have to constantly feed your body with food forit to take nurishment evenly throughout the day. The reason you maybe have excess fat at he moment is over time you may have eaten the wrong types of food at the wrong time. For example - If you eat carbs and do not do any exercise to burn the energy off, it will be eventualy converted in fat and stored in your body. You ca alter this by just tweaking your diet around you training.

I would definatly stick with it mate. You have all the tools and people you need on this site so use them!

Sorry mate I have been following to posts and have got yours mixed up with somebody elses.

Add another shake to the meal plan I just typed. There is still alot to improve on the meal plan I just typed but it would be a good starting point until you ease into it all.

That routine doent look very good to me. As already mentioned check the routine forum for ideas on a 3 or 4 day split. Something like chest/tris, back/bi's, legs, shoulders is a good a place as any to start.

What do you mean, you get up too early for breakfast? You really cant be skipping breakfast when your trying to bulk (or cut for that matter). And do you only have carbs with one meal??!

Also have a read through the articles in the diet forum. I think there's an example bulking diet in there somewhere. That should give you more of an idea of what to eat and when. Just quickly looking at yours, your definately not eating enough.

And dont let it get you down. It takes time to grow. Get your training, diet and rest sorted then just stick with it and gains will come.
