I usually consume 50g whey at breakfast, but am now incorporating unfuelled cardio into it. If I have 25g whey prior to cardio would it still be classed as "fasted"? Would protein-only not effect glycogen stores? So is this a good idea to subside catabolism? and have the other 25g with breakfast afterwards. Also would adding BCAA in help?

I have 25g prior to morning workouts in some water. I think it's probably going to preserve muscle, and being so little (it's only 100cals after all), won't impact the unfueled state toooooo much. If you're only doing 30 mins of unfueled, I'd not have it, if you're doing a full workout / longer...I'd have it.

SSCV even at times of 90 mins without fuel is fine. if youre doing weights or HIIT then yes have some form of nutrition. If you perform better after breakfast or later in the day then do it then, a calorie burned is still a calorie burned no matter what time of day you do it

Yes and Yes Look at the competition journals that James is guiding people through and the amounts of cardio they are doing and what their nutrition plans are like, they dont lose muscle. Im not machine at all, light cv work for me is easy. I dont use a heart rate monitor i just go by what intensity i feel is right.

Yes but were talking about unfueled cardio in the mornings! does he recommend 90mins+ of unfueled cardio?

I'm still really unsure about this to be honest. Could someone say when it would be beneficial to do early morning cardio at high intensity on an empty stomach and when it would be more benficial to have a whey shake before hand? (in terms of goals)

(in terms of goals) You can only do low intensity unfueled! if your going to do high intensity you must fuel your workout to prevent catabolism Heres afew pointers- -only do steady state cardio unfueled (no HIIT) -make sure you dont go too intense (no more than 60% mhr, get a good heart rate monitor as the ones on the treadmills/bikes can be way off) -dont do longer than 40mins (build up to this from 25-30mins) -make sure you have whey protein and a good carb source striaght away after This should keep muscle loss to a minimum as long as the rest of your diet is in check. hope this helps arnold
