brittas -> Carb timing question (May 6 2008 12:08:41)

I'm just starting a low carb cutting diet. I train first thing in the morning so I plan on only taking carbs with my pre-training breakfast and then some after.

Now I can't decide whether to have dextrose in my PWO shake, or to just have whey and have carbs in my PPWO meal an hour later?

Whats anyone think? Or won't it make any difference? It's easier to have carbs PPWO as it means I can have a sandwich or protein bar. As I'm eating at my desk, this is easier. I don't really want to be sat eating a salad with a knife and fork until lunchtime.

You have to suck it and see. Some people feel like crap if they don't top-up muscle glycogen after a workout and others don't.

Suppose thats why I'm asking really as I felt pretty crap all morning. I missed dextrose out of my PWO shake, but had 2 slices of granery with chicken for my PPWO meal.

I've not been adding carbs into my PWO shake for long so I don't know why I feel so bad. Then again, I did my first HIIT session after my weights so that could be to blame.

HIIT after weights first thing in the morning.......yeah that'll do it!

It's the only chance I have to do cardio. I don't get home til gone 6pm and I have a 4 month old baby to see to. Think I finally sit down about 9.30pm on a night and go to bed at 10pm!!!

You think I should try dextrose in the shake tomorrow and skip the bread in the PPWO?

theiopener -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 14:55:26)

sip on some lucozade during the hiit [:)]

brittas -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 15:05:04)

and then what?

No dextrose in PWO and have some carbs in my PPWO meal?

theiopener -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 15:05:34)

got it in one [:)]

Nice one.

Not that I'm getting hung up on numbers or anything [:)] but can I presume that the cals in the lucazade will just be burnt during the cardio?

theiopener -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 15:20:54)

yep will get burnt [:)]

R3261 -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 16:00:46)

have carbs within an hour or two after your last w/o

high/low up to you mate

i see little point doing HIIT after weights

Why's that?

Plenty of people seem to do it and it's the only chance I have to do cardio.

R3261 -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 16:30:36)

hiit + weights on the same days is unnecessary and could even be counterproductive

Neb -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 16:35:12)

Hey R....that quote isn't sig material. That's serious stuff. It's gotta be funny dammit

So in my situation I'm better off doing no cardio at all?

theiopener -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 16:50:45)

Ask T0NY how he did his transformation with kids, a wife, a full time job etc etc

if you want it bad enough you will make/find the time [;)]

Who's Tony? Any link's to journals etc?

I agree, if I want it bad enough I'll find time. But at the minute, my wife and kid comes before anything else.

I get an hour with my little boy before he goes to bed on a night. I spend the next hour or so eating and preping food for the next day then I sit down with the wife for an hour or so. I could do cardio here, but then she'd never see me. And I wouldn't be very popular.

Iopener, do you agree with the comment about HIIT being a waste of time after a weight session?

R3261 -> RE: Carb timing question (May 6 2008 17:01:40)

make it low intensity

For how long?

I get up at 5.30am now to fit my session in, and I've got around 20 mins spare for cardio.

It's gonna have to be HIIT I think

danchubbz -> RE: Carb timing question (May 7 2008 10:36:40)

I'd stick with 20 mins SSCV after weights if I were u.

How many times do u train a week?
